Psychology or not. I'd rather not take a class like that. I don't understand why some would take it if they're only going to try and force their own values on someone. It just seems like a complete waste of time.
o_o I know mom and dad wouldn't let me take a class like that. I think I understand why you are taking it, but... o_o Well at least it will help and I hope you don't get those stupid students again.
I agree with TC. If someone has a problem with the subject matter, they shouldn't attend in the first place. Heck, if they're as religious as they claim, their morality should prevent them from even giving it a second thought. Strange people that simply want to complain and push their own agenda/viewpoint aren't always wanted or appreciated. *nod*

Oh I plan on it. This time I won't hold back on pointing out how someone is being an ass. Graduation is coming up far too quickly for me to put it off again.
They're usually psychology majors. This kind of class falls under the additional credit hours one needs to support their main field. You can easily skip it since there are other aspects you can take instead. I work with victims of domestic violence so this kind of thing will be very useful for my chosen field.
Anyway, I'd have to say about half of the students are pretty serious and do want to learn, it's just the ones who come in with very rigid morals and mindset who make it a mess for everyone else.

I tried taking this class before and got stuck with a bunch of narrow minded religious jerks.
What puzzles me is why they would even take that sort of a class in the first place, especially more then one of them. I mean, it's not as if anyone would be confused as to the subject matter if they read the warning. I take it they were rather blunt in expressing their own opinions in class and didn't just sit back and try to learn?
I hope this go around is better and you can actually enjoy the class without anyone ruining it for you.
Well I hope the class proves useful and is free of idiots. o_O I'm pretty sure they don't have that at BYU. =P Or if they do, it probably won't get as frank as the U of U would.
Oh I know, I do remember the first attempt. It was laughable since a good number of the people taking it were just close minded as all get out. I really want to take it though. I think it will be useful since I do plan on continuing working with rape victims, so getting deeper into the psychology behind that will be good.
The only positive thing is I've heard that the teacher this summer is one who's very no nonsense and will outright boot a disruptive student out. So I'm hoping that will help foster a more serious learning environment.
I understand that. Still, being in a rather highly populated religious environment, and one that is—in your own testimony, even—highly close-minded, the odds of having a productive class of that nature are abysmal.
It's a state and federally funded university and not owned by the Mormon church. Fortunately the Salt Lake City area is only about fifty percent Mormon instead of closer to ninety eight like it is where Beth lives.
That and the University of Utah is known for having special interests in the medical field as well, so they have a lot of research in various areas being conducted here. Including psychological aspects, it's part of why I chose the school instead of going elsewhere.

I'm really curious to see if you get some of the same nitwits this time around. I certainly hope not, but if you do, good luck.

One does wonder why a course like that would be offered at a Utah school....
