I was actually practicing Lent at the time you posted this, but you know that. 8D
I like this post. There are a few people (mainly my father) who think that anime itself is an idol, and getting so much as ten feet away from it will "infect" you. Anything can be an idol if you let it. Celebrities, websites, people you know in every day life, games...anything. You can even be an idol to yourself (it's called Narcissism!).
I personally believe that if you give something up for Lent, it SHOULD be important. It should be (by definition) keeping you from God. That was why I gave up Tumblr, TheO and Facebook (though Facebook wasn't that hard). I spend too much time on them, and not enough with the Lord. He actually started talking to me again recently!
Ah yes, good point. If you do give up something, you shouldn't go about it half-heartedly. I know that's a problem I have with life. If I don't like it I only put in half of my energy doing it ^^'
Wow. That's interesting.
And I do think that turning anime into an idol is an issue for many Otaku. We take it too far.. :) I like how you have enough strength to stop watching it and spend time with God.
I get what you are saying about Lent. :) and I do agree. But at the same time I do think what you give up should be important to you...or hard to give up...If you give up cupcakes...and you only eat cupcakes like once a month.... :I I don't think that's a good idea. But if you say eat one cupcake a day. Then give up cupcakes. XD
Exactly. :) Good points!
And if Anime is taking too much time up...a break might be nice. Or just limit your intake. haha
And I know a lot of people who give stuff up for Lent and do it half-heartedly. If you're gonna do it...GO ALL THE WAY. Like one friend gave up popcorn...I'm like..."....How often to do even eat it?" XD

I feel like anime gets in the way a lot in my life so I've been thinking of taking a week off or so to start praying more and stuff. But about the anime fan thing, I agree. If you're watching for the wrong reasons and letting it affect you in a way that causes you to forget christian values, then I think it'd be wrong. No, I don't Practice lent because its not apart of my denomination. I think it'd be cool to try it out one year. Some of my friends practice so they were telling me a little about what they were giving up.
That's funny because Everlasting Light and I were just talking about Lent.
Well, first off I'll just say that I've never practiced Lent as a, um, practice? I think it's a good concept that we should be able to apply individually in our daily lives . . . let me explain. There have been some periods in my life where anime became too important to me to the point that it was controlling my life. So for awhile I personally would not watch it because I wasn't able to honor God through my watching. After a time anime was no longer an idol and I was able to watch again. So I was practicing what I believe is the concept of Lent even thought it wasn't the specific season.
I should also clarify that I don't think it has to be something that you necessarily struggle with either. It could just be something that by you giving it up for a time shows your special commitment to for this period of time. So even if I don't practice the season of Lent itself I take part in the purpose or theme behind the season of Lent.

Yeah I liked those. But I'm so used to eating the large servings that I feel like I'm getting ripped off. I blame my dad lol

Yeah it's so unhealthy (they trick you on serving sizes). Well if you make it yourself without all the extra stuff it can be a healthy snack.
