If you don't know how to do permutations, that's a drop from an 800 to a 750 lolol. And it's an even bigger drop if you actually try to solve the problem, because you'll waste time. xD
Good idea! And if anyone else needs SAT prep, maybe we can have the school make an announcement that there will be a SAT workshop/prep session in the library one day during lunch or after school. I have so many free online materials for the SAT that I haven't used yet lolol. I completely forgot how to do permutations (which is necessary for the sat askdfl;) so I need to start reviewing math... soon. xD
THAT AND MY SUMMER READING asdfklasdf;. I forgot to do my character and theme notes for Harry Potter and I haven't even started Things Fall Apart.
I think I need to self-study calc this year so that math stays fresh in my mind. If I don't study math for a year, I have a feeling that I'll fail AP calc next year since I won't remember how to do anything. x-o
No LOL. I attended 5th grade at a private school that was really expensive, and my mom didn't want me to go there for another year so we just applied to a middle school, got in, and I started going there. So I skipped 6th grade LOL. My sister skipped 3rd grade by talking to her school principal.
In a way I guess? xD Of course they'd have to get straight A's as well (which isn't that hard lol), but at my school the only way to get the valedictorian rank (or at least the case for the classes of 2013 and 14) is to take several online AP classes, which cost 320 to 400 dollars per semester.
I only skipped a grade so that I could save money LOL. I was never qualified to skip a grade haha. In 7th grade I struggled to keep up for the first semester. I got straight D's on english tests LOL.
I'm aiming for salutatorian, because I know that valedictorian is an implausible goal. There is already one person who has straight A's, quit band, and has already taken several online APs (and will take more)- he's valedictorian by default because of that LOL.
At my school there are no hardcore studiers-everyone has a life LOL. I don't know a single person at my school who does nothing but study all day, because everyone would rather hang out with friends/etc. That's a good thing though I guess, because HYPSM reject 2400'er valedictorians every year because they lack ECs/etc.
Wow, that seems to suck so bad! o__o It sounds almost like they're buying their grades, lololol. Of course, they still have to work at getting an A. >.>
You're aiming for valedictorian? I bet you're smart enough to~ I mean, hey, you skipped a grade. Bet the other people aiming for it weren't even able to do that! :P
In my school and my grade, the really smart people are guys, and they....have no social skills. Like, literally. None. Nada. Zip. So, although they may have a large chance of getting into those top colleges, when faced with an interview, they may not do so well. That gives me a bit of hope. Then, the next few smart kids in my grade are all my friends. It's hard to see them doing well at certain things, since it makes me feel like I'm lacking in certain areas.
Really?
At my school, there is like NO competition lol. You could sleep in half of your classes and still be ranked first. Almost every teacher gives extra credit so getting straight A's is no problem (with the exception of AP english)
The only reason it's tough to be valedictorian is that in some classes (if only I didn't skip a grade lol) there are a couple people who actually do try to do well in school. My school's education system favors people who fail and don't take AP classes, and so it doesn't even offer that many APs to start with. Plus, a lot of ECs count as a class so that people who fail can get easy A's lol.
For the people who like taking APs or want to be first in their class, they are willing to pay tons of money to take online classes and be first in their class, which atm is something I can't do. xD If my school used AP exams for credit and GPA weight, I'd be valedictorian but nah.
Basically at my school, the richest person gets the valedictorian status. xDDD
I haven't taken an online class before, so I'm still deciding. Most of my friends use apex and aventa, but I've heard that FLVS (like 100 bucks more expensive though lol) is the best for comp sci so I'm probably going with that.
I'm going to go talk to the principal at my school to see if I can audit band lol. I want to take band, and I'm willing to devote 2+ hours a day to it (and not miss a single class period), but it's a superfluous class and I don't want to be rejected from Harvard just because I have a lower GPA and rank (which is unfair as well since the people competing for valedictorian don't take as many APs as me, they just don't take band and take online APs lol). If I can find a way to convince the school to let me audit band, then I'll have a 4.8 weighted GPA and not a 4.6
LOL same. I never paid attention in algebra I or II but I always got A's on tests. I hate math though. And I didn't learn trig pre-calc in my trig pre-calc class (we learned like, half the book lol) and so I'm direly unprepared for the SAT II math. I'm not going for USAMO because there are geniuses who can qualify without even studying lol.
That's why I'm not taking orchestra. xDD 'Cause either you have to take it all 4 years and have your GPA suffer, or just don't take it, and not have it affect your GPA. Of course, it looks prettier to the colleges if you take orchestra/band, so there are pros and cons.
Oh shucks...I guess I should start studying now for the chem version. I'm not going for any of those math ones. Reason? I hate math. Probably more than I hate the SAT, since the SAT math is so much easier. I don't suck at math- I can sleep through a class and pull out with a high A, but I just don't like working with numbers and equations that aren't going to apply to my life anytime soon.
LOLOL it's okay, I scare myself too.
And on a variety of different sites. They are expensive though. I had to work the whole summer to coax my parents into letting me take one class. Even if I do take one class though, my GPA is lower than everyone else's because I take band. Plus, one of my friends is taking online APs as well (and he isn't even in band) and so... yeah. My rank is suffering big time right now. XDD
No, they are harder. I got a 5 on AP bio but I still have to study for USABO. The USABO open has 50 questions, and the semi-finalist cut is usually a mid 20 score. I'm going to memorize Campbell's (1200 page book) before February so that I have something going for me lolol.
Why not take AMC/AIME/etc so that you might qualify for USAMO?
My heavenly goddess, I swear, even though I already know you're planning to take 11 AP tests, it still scares me beyond belief. >.> Oh, by the way, where do you take those online AP classes?
OMG I NEVER HEARD OF THIS USABO BEFORE. (I thought it was a class when you mentioned it last time) BUT THEN I LOOKED IT UP. I would totally enter, but I detest bio. It's not that I suck at it, I just give it perfunctory effort. Buttttttt, I found that there's a chemistry version! TOTALLY GONNA PREPARE FOR IT.
For these contests, are the questions AP leveled?
