Yup I sure do. It has taken great effect and many cultures. We never would know that much about many things if it was without them.. And plus, these RPGs, like Tales of, are games that are always good to relax and enjoy the fairy tale they give.^^
Nice. *appluads* The revolution of RPG's across the world seem to be taking a great effect on all people from all over.
Gaming is truly a thing of wonder, don't you think so too?
Heh, that's a good question. Do you want that I tell you a little history there? Well you want or not, I will. xD
It goes like this. First two RPG games that were widely played (widely at that time) were Ultima and Wizardy. They are said to be the first RPG games, but actually there was one before them. I can't remember the name, but that one was poorly made so most people don't even remember it.. Anyways, they were Western RPGs. At that time a revolution struck in Japan.
It is funny, but most of the Japanese stuff, even animes, were influence by the west. BUT, they didn't use what they saw, instead they were trying to make it better. So we got today what is known as anime and also unique video games.
Video games they did by Dragon Quest. First RPG to hit the screen and that one changed the history. Though it is so poor by today's standards, by that time it was something people have not seen. Later came out Final Fantasy and after that more and more similar games were to hit the screen.
West had many RPGs, but half of them at that time were influenced by the Japanese ones and the irony is that these ones were not so popular. It went like that even during SNES era. During that time many of the Japanese games never hit localization to the west, even though that was the birth of many known series that will hit the screens later. Even Tales of gave birth then and soon to be followed by one of the most legendary RPG of all Chrono Trigger and it's sequel Chrono Chross. Then came our Suikoden and many other, but I don't want to bother you with all these little details...
I see. That's quite a History that different types of RPG's have. I agree they have changed within these past few years, and their change has had an impact on the way these games are viewed today.
A question came to mind, What would RPG's be like now, if they were never influenced by JRPG's?
Haha, clans you say? You probably mean on MMORPGs. That's another theme to look into, but yes more than half Western, especially Americans, people play these, while in Japan it is the other way around. I guess Japanese people give a good heartbreaking and touching story over just gameplay (though to be honest, I like all tactician ones that they have XD).
LoL, you know the irony? There is actually a Harry Potter RPG. Not sure if I can remember, but when I played first and second part I researched a little and these games were different on almost every system they came out.
First one was on game boy color a RPG, and second one on Game Boy advance I think. Maybe even the third one was there.
They weren't something special, but hey it is said that they are fun.^^
Glad that I helped. And yes, we can agree on that. BUT, it was only during the the 80-is and barely 90-is. During that period J-RPGs were by far more numerous and better than Western, though few of them had international releases.
And then later when they got adopted to their own style, the campaign began, especially in late 90-is, but by that time even J-RPGs were adopted in the west (mainly thanks to Final Fantasy VII). So they still were tied down.^^
We Americans sure do love our fantasy RPGs. XD At least in Japanese RPGs the graphics are a little more varied. >.> All Western RPGs are pretty much the same thing: Clans, fighting, quests, blah, blah, blah...
I think they should make a Harry Potter RPG. Just saying. XD
Hm, this post has helped me realize the difference of graphics in terms of Japanese and American made RPG's.
In comparison, it looks like American made RPG's have derived the graphic style used, from Japan's style of graphics.
Yeah, it is funny, but nothing bad of course, it is just the matter of taste.^^ Western have poorer storyline, but are strong at gameplay elements. Yoy, I just remembered to mention that! Thank you for reminding me, I need to add that, because one of the main differences in the gameplay there.
Hm, well it added versus cause it is a between reality and fantasy, I think. There are two separate worlds there. And XIII, because it is also in Fabula Nova Cristalis series like the main XIII part, though only the ruling force (something similar to guardians of Earth) are connecting them. All other is different. And there will be a sequel to XIII part, called XIII-2.
Also there is Final Fantasy XIV, just that it is a MMORPG. :3
LoL, that's an interesting vision you had there.^^
