Hm, it seems that you know quite a lot. And yes, it's true. They are targeted for older teenagers and especially ones that go to school. I guess so that they can easily carry them around and read whenever they feel like it. Though for some reason, if I was carrying that here..Everyone would pick what I am carrying. XD

I think that Spice and Wolf was made in the same way. But then, what about those that have visual novels and drama CDs? It get's more confusing. XD

I've read that the term "light novels" is comparable to them being called "young adult books" in other places. Basically, it's aimed at teenagers so it's not super heavy and deep, but rather light.
I suppose the term describes both the book physically and what it contains.

The Haruhi Suzumiya anime was adapted after light novels, which I thought was cool. It went light novels -> anime -> manga. Kind of a weird order, actually.

Yup it sure is. But I just received my two light novels and actually Western ones have additional sleeves there with like cosplay of that character and inside is the original Japanese one.^^

I've never really seen light novels, but then the book shops I see don't have much manga either XP boo.
