I'm sure the ending was supposed to be different so that people would still read the manga. If the ending was given away in the anime, there wouldn't be a lot of people who'd want to bother with the manga, especially since each chapter was released once a month.
As for "Bluebird's Illusion", I know that it was entirely fan-made, so I don't really honor it.
Call it karma. Call it luck. Me, I just don't give a... BOUNCE!
Brotherhood is much better and follows the manga much better. The problem with the first FMA is the anime started before it should have and caught up with the manga to fast. They needed to do something so the anime wouldn't stop so they kind of made their own ending...and we see how well that worked out.
However, I have noticed in this anime timeline there's also a video game that was only released in Japan called Blue bird's illusion.
The thing you put in spoiler tags didn't happen in this continuity. I tried to set aside my feelings of "this doesn't happen in the REAL story" and just watch the movie for what it was.
Turns out the biggest reason I didn't like it was because it was packed with filler characters that I didn't really care about, or even care for. Most of the characters from the actual story didn't do that much. In fact, the only real constant was Ed.
Also, there were waaaaaaay too many things that either weren't explained or didn't make sense. I'm not really going into detail because I don't know how much of the first series you saw. All I can say is the manga was SO much better.
Thanks for the congratulations.

Really? In what ways did you find it dissatisfying?
The only part I can think of was when Roy got his sight back using one of the philosopher stones. I thought it was cheating, especially after that whole 'people who use the stones are EVIL!' and 'WE WON'T USE THE STONES!' mantra that had been going on. Not that I wanted him blind but I honestly think his character could handle it. I thought it ruined a good moment :/
Anyway I'm curious to hear which parts you didn't like ^^
Also I should probably say Brotherhood was the first one I finished never actually did get back to finishing that 'first series' so that might make a difference since I had nothing to compare it to?
How ironic.
I just finished FMA for the first time.
And yes, I did find it somewhat dissatisfying.
At least know I know The Conqueror of Shamballa won't help anything xD
