The way I got the email was to say "No thanks" to the ToS. Apparently, the email address is deskpro@tumblr.com.

It says tumblr is granted royalty-free access to your posts, meaning they don't make money from it. The section has the word "sublicense," but I don't know what that means. But basically tumblr does use it for their own purpose, to make it tumblr as the email stated. There are many words they use to describe the functions of the site, but since I'm not too sure about those, I might email them. Can I have the email address to who you sent it to?

But technically if it came out of our heads and is our intellectual property it's already copyrighted so they can't use it for their own purposes. TAKE THAT, TUMBLR! I SPEAK LEGALESE TOO!

How do we copyright ourselves so they can't use our stuff? Is there a way to do that? Because if there isn't, then I'm gonna delete my account too.

The first part of that post I linked to is a series of images with text (the first one says "ATTENTION"). One of the images explains the part about uncopyrighted work.

I'm not popular/talented enough for them to use my stuff too, so I'm not too worried about me. I think it's a shame because I was gonna use tumblr to promote myself.

I read the link you gave us to get a better understanding of what is going on and from what I get, you can post stuff but tumblr can use it for their own purposes. I admit I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to contracts / politics (anything law related) and I don't get what they mean. So do you mind explaining where the not copyrighted comes in from the post?

Yes, I do have a Tumblr. I don't use it for my visual art-- just music. I don't think many people know that I'm there, but I still don't want Tumblr using my work for their own means.

ah man I had no idea about it until now. It upsets me since I was actually thinking of starting to use tumblr more for art purpose but with that kinda change it makes me want to delete my account too, or take down everything I ever posted.
I'll see if I read it to get a better understanding of what is going on though and also I didn't know that you had songs up.

Hey! I didn't know you had a tumblr account!
I saw the update but I haven't had the chance to read the whole thing. I rarely post my stuff on Tumblr so I think I'm safe from this change. I mainly have an account to follow other blogs mostly art blogs. Though since they changed it other artists will probably delete their accounts.

That's not good! I know I'm not popular/talented enough for them to use my stuff, but it still leaves a bad taste in the mouth. and I don't want to leave tumblr, I know I don't update my tumblr enough, but it has a nice feel to it for the most part, a good way to spend hours on it, it's a nice place to share random moments/thoughts, and it's a much nicer place than facebook. Hopefully this will backfire on tumblr as many artists will leave, and tumblr can't afford that, there are other places people can go too, and it's not like dA, where the only site that you can reach such a wide audience and have extras (like prints) is dA. I hope they'll change their policies soon enough >:(
