I hear you on this. I had that happen with The World is Still Beautiful (Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii). I read the manga, and I was really excited when the anime version came out. My first reaction at hearing Livius' voice was, "NO, he's TOO OLD!!" I mean, he's just a kid -- I "heard" a kid's voice. But the VA sounds at least 18.

If you like thief love stories D.N.Angel is good. Jing is good but not as mind blowing as I remember. Could be because I stopped before picking up twilight tales though. I feel fruits basket was another miss on voices too =/ maybe it's just me though.

I know what you mean about subs vs. dubs. Although dubs have gotten much better over the years, it feels weird watching them after watching the subbed version.

As for me, I usually read the manga first and then if I like it, I watch the anime. Most of the time, they do a really great job and have the voice 'in the area' of what I was thinking. For example, AoT did a really great job with the voice actors, the only thing was that I was disappointed with some of the dub actors that didn't really match the sub version xD I find that most of the time it's usually the sub/dub transition that the voices don't add up...but maybe I'm a bit biased on that! xD

Ok yes, I'm in the same boat as you Keba. Let's talk D.N.Angel. I read the manga and LOVED it. (Haven't read the last two volumes since she came off hiatus) I imagined Dark as zero smooth talking slightly deep voiced guy you know? With a sexy sort of tone. Japanese voice actor freaking nailed it. 13 year old Usagi was very happy with him....English dub rolled out and although the anime itself was...meh, I wanted to hear the voices...I love Vic Mignogna don't get me wrong. I am in no way hating on him but...it wasn't what I pictured you know? Ancient even get me started on the twins....that was utter ear rape.

Jing king of bandits. Jing should be a sly smartass genius teen boy. Both versions came close...Kir was very off though.

It's kind of the same thing with me when I read a manga series after watching the dub of the anime that inspired it, or when I read a manga based on an anime series. Like you, watching that horrid dub of Sailor Moon negatively affected my reading of the manga, though that damage has been corrected somewhat by watching clips of the re-dubbed version. It's the same thing with the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's manga and the wretched 4kids dub of the original anime version (not that the 5D's manga is all that great, to be honest).
