This being my all time favourite movie I have to admit that I've never, in all 20-something times I've seen it, never actually thought of it that way. But then again, I wasn't looking for the deeper meaning (I was, what, like 12 years old when I watched it, what 12 year old watches for the deeper meaning!) but now that I've read your work (and what amazing work it is!) I can't stop thinking about it that way.
And after all, can't a theme have more than one meaning? I've read so many poems that do, so why can't a movie right?
Having been in the tough position of being out of work and unable to find a job for the past seven years (I'm still unemployed), I can certainly understand your view here. I never really looked at Spirited Away that way before, but maybe those key points are the reason I find the film so fascinating. I just might have picked up on those things about it, without even realizing that they were more directly linked to myself than what was obvious.
Nicely worded, and thought-provoking. I think I'll put that DVD in again later and take a closer look for myself.
