Hello there, this is Katana, also known as Kat in some circles. I'm your friendly neighborhood twenty-two-year-old illustrator/writer whose sarcasm is second to none and harboring the ability to verbalize the parentheses in stories. I drink coffee and draw like an addict and am liable to get you into things that I like. Currently the wielder of a BFA in Illustration and a minor in English.

Questions? Comments? Death threats? Feel free to PM or message me in some iteration. I'm always around, you just don't know it.

"Some of the great artists of our time started off by doodling in class. ...Maybe. Oh heck I dunno."

Presenting...

Kat's first really big publishing gig!

The t-shirt of the athletic boosters. Oh yeah.

Also, there is no better way to get attention at school than to mes up your face. I was just surprised by how many people knew. o_O;

To the FACE!

Well, I had an adventure today.

Band, fourth hour. We're out on the field, practicing for tomorrow night's opening game. About 2:10, we had run the show once and were going to do it again. Traditionally, we like to run like spazzes to our spots, and that's just what we did.

There's a problem with running with a bass drum. It tends to lean you forward. It's also not a great thing to run with, especially since it limits how high you can lift your legs. Long story short, I lost my balance, tripped, and kinda fell/rolled onto my drum and then to the ground.

"Drummer down!" somebody called out. A few seconds later - "oh my God she's bleeding!" I opened my eyes to see grass blades covered in blood, my arm completely splattered, and seeing a steady drip coming from my mouth. My first thought was that I had lost some teeth - luckily, no. Lorenza swooped down and was shouting for our director. "Struyk! She's bleeding! Struyk! Struyk! Blood! Um...code red! Code red!"

There were also two gym classes outside, so one of the teachers was called over to help. Well, she proved useless and just kinda stood there. Everyone told me not to look at the blood, which wasn't bothering me, and I really wanted to, but yeah, they prevented me from doing so. >_>; Struyk and Lorenza get me off my stomach and into a sitting pose, then apparently he stripped mid-field to give me his undershirt to soak up the blood.

Chin propped in Struyk-shirt, we sat and waited for the nurse. "Um...you guys an go inside!" Struyk called to the band. Ah...what fun...

Nurse comes, I get back inside and she bandages up my chin to help with the blood flow - which by this point, has stopped. Lorenza cleaned off my arm and got me my bag before bringing to my attention that my Gizmonics necklace had broken. Oh, and it had blood on it. My counselor popped in and was like "why do you have your camera?" as I took it out to snap a shot.

Mom came and took me to the hospital. Fairly uneventful: got cleaned up some more and got numbed up [shots huuuuuuuurt] before getting - wait for it, wait for it...seventeen stitches. After coming home, my director called and talked to me for a little bit. Turns out I beat him for stitch count when he got his nose messed up. I also got blood on both the drum and the carrier, which the drumline cleaned up. "Dude, I've permanently imbued myself on both of them! Awesome!"

Lorenza put it best: I looked like I had taken on and defeated some wild animal. It's a shame I didn't get a picture of the varsity field [first casualty goes to a band geek!] or my face [I didn't even see how I looked]. But if it wasn't for the fact that my chin's a bit numb and sore and there's an emergency room bracelet on my wrist, this would be just like any other day...

Edit: For your enjoyment disgustment records, here's a photo of me and my stitches.

Fanspazz!

The Chat last night was spectacular. Tiffany Grant was a fantastic guest - perky, fun, and just as crazy as we are. And I got the second...or third...question!

Question: First off, props for working on my favorite series of all bloody time, Azumanga Daioh, and great work on bringing obsessive-but-sweet Kaorin to life. Going off that, how much different is it to work on a comedy series over an action or drama series?

22:08 VoiceOfAsuka
I LOOOOOOOOVE Azumanga Diaoh!!

22:09 VoiceOfAsuka
I wold say the general mood in the studio is much lighter when you're working on a comedy.
>> Especially something like AD
>> Now that's a show I have DEFINITELY watched!

22:11 VoiceOfAsuka
I recently did a con w/Christine "Miss Sakaki" Auten
>> ^_____^
>> We had LOTS of Azumanga fans there, and I found myself very happy to be sitting next to the real Miss Sakaki

That was fun!

Then I got three of my comments approved at the end. 8D Great chat indeed...

With refill kits, you can make super freak out...

I don't know why, but today, I just freakin' snapped.

Stress just seemed to be overblown. I couldn't get a grasp on it all. I was tired, afraid, angry, worried, and just...

Band today was a half-concert, half-marching affair. When it came time to switch, I swapped out my oboe for the bass drum...you know, like usual. Then I turned around and smacked my head on an open locker door.

And just lost it.

I wasn't crying at first, just breathing rapidly. Then I broke down. Missy and I had a therapy session after that [since she didn't have anything to do, being in colorguard]. Just...the two of us, talking in the band locker room.

After band, I got hugs. ._.;

I can't go to band rehearsal tonight. I just...can't go there. I don't think I could deal with it for more than five minutes.

Overwhelming, start

AP art is already killing me. First assignment is due next Tuesday. Miscommunications abound, though we, the students, are all banded together, so it's not too bad.

If it wasn't for AP art, this would be the smoothest sailing right now. But I'm not dropping. I've worked way too hard to just dump it now. And it's still just the first week. I'll get into the groove and the world will be happy.

My favorite class so far is probably commercial art. It's a class I've wanted to take since I was a sophomore, but it never had the bulk to run until now. Our first project is fashion design, and we have to not only design, but make a piece of formal wear - in other words, a dress. But they have to be out of unconventional materials, so I'm going to make mine out of old Anime-Insiders, duct tape, and paperclips. I'm going to have fun.

Probably the worst is animal science, which has so far proven very...well, dry. It's apart of a new set of agriculture classes the school is offering, and since I'm a senior, they let us take the class despite it actually being one you need a prerequisite for. Anyways, we're getting a crash-course on what agriculture is before moving on to the animal stuff. Four of my friends are in it, and they all sit by me [or with me], so it's been tolerable.

Didn't stop me from doodling on my notes [I CAN DRAW CROW NOW WTF]

Guh, I'm hungry...

Tomorrow's band rehearsal...Friday's the first home game...Saturday I work...Wow. Three day weekend though, yeah!

I suddenly just lost my entire train of thought. Geez.
