Pretty much everything Ryu has said, I completely agree with.
Talking to your prof during his office hours is going to be your best bet. Just hoping he'll get better, or accepting the way things are going will not help anything. Talk to him, express your concerns with specific examples. "I was just wondering what it is you meant by the fact that I didn't "Consider the letter relationships enough." I felt that I was deeply in tune with what they all meant and how they were connected, but I guess it wasn't in the vein you wanted. What is it that you were looking for, and what should I work on to improve?"
You're there to learn, so make the effort. Profs are always more than willing to help you out if you go to them with problems. It IS part of their job after all. I've yet to meet a prof that wasn't completely willing to help me if I had concerns.
Even if you feel you know better than him, too bad. He's the one giving out the marks, and you're the student. Get what knowledge and skills you can out of him, and then just do what you can to please him.
And believe me, I know the type. I had a prof in my first semester of second year that was beyond vague, and could not teach worth a crap. But because of the type of course it was (computer programming), I was able to just teach myself everything, and when I was unsure, I would ask him. He usually wouldn't help, but I got to better know what he was looking for, even if only slightly. Obviously since you're in a very different type of course, you won't be able to just completely ignore him.
Basically, I really agree with Ryu. Go and talk to your prof. Otherwise this will simple fester, and you'll much have deeper problems soon.
There are people on campus there to help other than deans, you know this, right? They make it so scenarios like that don't happen when they shouldn't. =/
Top reasons why I would want to get a teacher into trouble:
-He slept with my girlfriend....repeatedly
-He came into class wearing a poorly fastened bath robe
-He urinated into a wishing fountain
-Gave me an F "For Fun"
-Last name is 'Steimel'
Waaaay at the bottom would be "Is hard of hearing, ignores petty errors, and is a strict rule follower."
Anyway, the point is, I'm sure this is something that could be worked out cooperatively as opposed to aggressively, 'Karma Houndini' or no.
That said, I don't doubt TC's efficency; it's just that I doubt Ericson would be able to understand a student's problem when he's eyeball-less. ●_●

There are ways that you can get them with no direct effect to your grade, as long as you don't do poorly to start. No man should be a Karma Houndini, no matter how much power they wield over you.
Besides, can you see the chaos that would happen if we let Toki loose on the man? That wouldn't be good. =/
I have yet to come across an asshole instructor, but the experience of others have informed me that you can flatten out pretty much any problem at all if you visit him and actually talk to him (instead of cursing behind his back) outside of class. The way I understand it, college instructors don't really care about the majority of students at all (especially true at state universities and other major colleges) unless you go out of your way to let them know that you care about whatever is going on, and want to do something about it.
Before you bash the idea, really, try it. And don't do it while you're on your way out of your class; catch him off guard in his office or something. It'll be a beneficial social experiment.

Fuck him. If he has that big of a problem, I think it really should be brought to the attention of the dean. Maybe you can get him in trouble for being a really big dick... particularly if you have some witnesses to back you up.
I am NOT liking this man. He better have a good explanation for this. He's not even my teacher and I feel like punching something.

I'd rather see in shades of gray.

I think "doesn't teach a damn thing" is high on the list, though.
