I am very big on* Communication, especially when there are issues floating around. And in those cases it really helps if you're Directly Communicating with whomever you have issues with. Solving said issues is speedier and less time/energy-consuming that way.

I get you're what saying, but I wouldn't let freaky roommate stories scare you off having a roommate altogether. Or at least the potential for one. I've had really good roommate experiences, and I know many others who have as well--things like this are generally the exception to the rule.

I have a friend who had a very similarly unstable roommate.
(e.g. neurotic, crying to her parents all the time, bitching on the phone about my friend within earshot, crying while playing her banjo in the lounge <--- wtf)
Honestly, some people are just crazy. Too bad.

Dude... that sounds like one girl seriously bent off her rocker. I mean, if you had locked her out of the room, wouldn't she, you know, tell you about it so that you're more careful next time or something like that? She just sounds like someone who needs to take a chill pill to begin with but instead is just gonna go on a downward spiral.
...besides, looking like "a drowned rat" is how a lot of girls look with the amount of gel crap they put in their hair nowadays. =/ My bet is that she's just an attention whore.
People who are that immature and incapable of dealing with conflict (even totally self-perpetuated conflict) in a healthy manner are not worth worrying over. I mean, I don't know you super well, but you seem pretty chill. My guess is these problems she was having are totally unrelated to you, and it was just easy for her to pin them on you.
Anyway... uh, more space? For, like, nerdy things?
Normally, I would encourage facing the problem and talking to her, but it seemed to be obvious that she didn't want to talk with anybody at all and was already taking desicive action. And with her in that emotion, trying to clear up the bathroom incident would probably make things worse. However, fearing for you life is probably an overreaction, and really isn't fair for her to those that know her. Some people just can't adjust to college life, and go and do other things.
She must have suckers for parents though, to have them help her move out at the very end of the semester and finals. I'm assuming they had a hand in her tuition; they must be either uber-doting or loaded.
