Ah, what a perfect post for me to stumble across at this point in time! I've been dormant for a few years, but I'm back. Basically for all the reasons that you mentioned.
I remember your 'name' and the names of many others who are still around! I was surprised when I logged back on, but actually... then again I wasn't very surprised. I knew there would be a troop of the old guard on the site. I had a pretty good idea of who that would be. And I never would have deleted my account - I knew I'd be coming home. And that pretty much is what it feels like - a homecoming.
