See, since I'm not angry or anything, I don't think temper will be a problem. I just think my frustration will become more and more apparent unless I specifically ask her to tell me what to do, like Waffuru suggested. It's very distracting. [/Rory]
I know exactly how this is. There is a high school teacher that was very particular on how she wanted things done. If you didn't do it HER way it was downgraded.
This also happened in the photography program. It just got to the point of not being able to handle it so I dropped out. I am not saying you should do that same because you are a far better artist than I am. It'd be a waste if you did. Just make the professor happy. I know that she is frustrating. That is one thing I learned about the high school teacher. She was a nice person but she had her ways. Keep your temper in check, do as you're told and work your hardest and you will do fine.
Six-year-olds and nuclear weapons: a combination that just can't be beat.
It sucks whenever you have to go up to a teacher and be like "you stink at this." Sometimes it just has to happen though. Teachers like to complain about students not doing everything they can do to get help, so... complain and then she can't complain about it later. It also works as a bit of a safe guard because then you can always say "but you said..."
I think I really do have to say that. I felt really stupid for, two classes in a row, not getting what she wanted but somehow being alright in what I was doing, which just baffles me. How do I know what I'm doing is right if I'm so unclear? Yeah.
I think you should tell her that you feel like she isn't being clear in her outline. I mean, she says do anything then shoots stuff down? That isn't "do anything." Maybe she doesn't understand that you can give creative freedom within guidelines?
Anyhoo, bitch and complain. If she isn't setting you up to get the best possible use out of this class it is your job as a student to bring this to her attention. Without you she wouldn't have a job or a paycheck.

I thought the point of art was... to be artistic. Creative. Do what the hell you want. Like, it shouldn't matter what medium you use. Something like that. I would understand if it was an art class specifically designed around learning a certain medium, but from what I understand that's not what this is.
Well hopefully personal and pro lines don't start to blend. But you know what, just keep on doing your thing. Eventually she'll start to acknowledge you on all levels.
This is one of the downsides into going to school for some sort of artistic or creative major. Everything is so friggin' subjective that you don't know what kind of person you're going to get with every new professor and they're all different. One wants you to work on this, another on that, neither of them can agree on interpretation because they both learned different styles and... ugh. All the people in medicine and engineering and mathematics and shit like that really don't know how well they've got it because there's usually only one one way to do take an x-ray or build a suspension bridge or solve some mega-complicated calculus problem and if there is variation, it's rarely open to interpretation.
That sucks that she won't at least look at it from your p-o-v. but looking down on you or hating you on a pro level. Why do you think that? From what I read you say she's a nice person and this kind of behavior is a complete 180 especially seeing as you really are trying your best to do the projects. Here's hoping the class starts getting easier for you.
