    @Adam:

    Which is why I was also clear in expressing that this is simply my point of view. I don't know everything about them, but my gut instinct, combined with what I have been taught by professional artists and my own experience, was telling me to be wary at best about these things.

    This is the sort of scenario where I do not feel very comfortable with what's being offered in return. They may indeed be completely legit with their offering, but I wished to express to those that have been contacted that there are realities to the art world, and what this could boil down to.

    To be clear: We have zero relationship with Quarto, they're not an advertiser and we don't benefit at all from their solicitations. If anything, their upcoming How to Draw book competes with Art of Otaku. That's why we declined when they asked us to post a news item about this.

    That said I didn't want to deprive any of our artists from making their own decisions, so I gave them permission to PM some members. It's not a wholly negative offer, there are pros and cons that have to be weighed.

    I looked up the news on that incident... the AnimeFF thing... but... since the news section got pulled down, I couldn't get the exact news bit... just this: here

    Good insight on the matter. And yeah, if "exposure" is what an artist want, the best way to do it is by being active in art communities, like the O and deviantart. You work on your art to get job offerings as an artist, rather than getting charity offerings...

    I still think it sounds a little fishy. I think some members were contacted who don't even have fanart on their portfolio sooo... This company wouldn't use wallpapers would they? Doesn't that infringe copyright law somehow if they were to sell them?

    I don't know...

    Thanks for the vid though ^^

    @moletta:

    I'm a little hesitant because apparently, this solicitor has been given the all-clear by the bossman. It is still incredibly fishy to me and I am rather upset at the tactics being utilized by this person. They're preying on kids, essentially. But who am I to go against something sanctioned by the runner of the site? =

    As a non-artist I am not effected. My world is also not all that well read. Any thoughts of linking or copy/pasting either this or Axel's post to the water cooler?
