Joining the crowd of anti-socialites in announcing that I, too, am not going to prom. Though it's more of a "me" issue rather than a "prom is lame" issue. ^^;;
But honestly, prom is not that big a deal and not having a boyfriend isn't either. A lack of boyfriend doesn't mean there's anything lacking in you. How active a person's love life is no indication of how interesting they are as a person--because I can assure you that there are many, many wonderful people out there who just never quite find their "other half," so to speak.
And as for your life being mediocre... oh, come on. You're only sixteen. Everyone's lives are mediocre at that age. We all still have our whole lives to live; what's the point in looking back now when all of the best things are still to come? :)
Was I seriously the only person who actually went to grad and wanted to? Dang . . .
I'm more freaked out about how early it is (mine was late June, after the school year completely ended). But whatever - if this is what you wanna do, then we're not really in any position to stop ya.
As for the other thing . . . um . . . . . . I'unno. I'm not the one to give good advice for that one.
I went to prom because my parents and friends basically ordered me to, haha. It was okay, but hardly the once-in-a-lifetime memorable experience that people make it out to be. In hindsight, I should've just stuck to my guns and not gone.
We can be promless together. Frankly, I'm sick of all the talk too. But whatevs, come hang out with me after you get off from work and we can rant.
As for the boyfriend thing, remember most of these people you've known forever and its not like all your friends that that stellar of relationships. Erin is always being stalked, Rissa's been set up with a teacher, and my only boyfriend is no longer with us. Seriously, you don't want into this crowed.
As for a prize...how about...playing my Apollo Justice when I'm done! Money saving...hooray? Okay, not too awesome of a prize...
what on Earth am I doing wrong in the fact that I've never had a boyfriend?
Absolutely nothing.....unless you're trying as hard as you possibly can. But I won't speak to that.
Really, it's high school. You ain't gotta be attached to have fun or feel like you mean something to people. I know a guy who just turned eighteen, and he's been married for three to four months. I know another guy who just got married five weeks ago, and he's six years out of college and teaching private lessons.
I'm probably going to be single for my entire life. =P
(Although I recently learned that I was crushed on for a short while by multiple attractive and intelligent women. But I'm so out of touch I didn't notice. Maybe that's the problem; either you or some guy is just an utter relationship dolt like me. =P)

I wish I hadn't gone to my prom. Big waste of time, money, and effort. I was suckered into the idea that it was THE thing to do (and since I actually had a girlfriend at the time). But in the end the music was horrible, I personally don't like 'grinding' either, plus my girlfriend was petrified of dancing at all. We could have had a better time doing something fun just by ourselves.
And don't worry, many people have hqda the same "what am I doing wrong?" thoughts *raises hand*
Try to tune out everyone else as much as you can, I guess. You won't be able to get them all to shut up about prom, and murdering them would be nice but impractical.
Bah, prom. I didn't go to mine. I thought the same thing, no date, no point. Plus, those kind of events aren't generally my type of thing. If I'm not mistaken, the night of my prom I was at home playing Wii, lol.
I've had a few girlfriends, but at the same time it's probably better for me to say I haven't, simply due to the depth (or lack thereof) the relationships went, lol.
Lonely existence? I know the feeling. And I'm sure many more of us here do. People like all of us are spread out, so we all feel alone and isolated.
As for dealing with it? Well, everyone has to find there own way. You can accept it and give up, you can struggle in a hopeless way, you can fight back vehemently believing in the future, you can change yourself, you can change what's around you, or you can try something completely different. It's going to have to be a personal decision. But simply because you decide on one thing at one time, doesn't mean you have to stay with that. Just do whatever you want to do at the time, and go along with that.
And don't worry about being "emo and angsty". Everyone's entitled to their feelings and letting them out. And hey, what are friends for?

Imagine tearing their throats out. That should help, just don't let the image go beyond an image, you get?

I'd rather see in shades of gray.
