There are many things you can do to a card or wallpaper, and you can explore some of these effects by looking at other works and see what other artists do to their cards and walls. ^^

Curiosity and dare are what you need to improve, I think.
And, if you're brave enough, you can watch tutorials^^

The key to improvement is just to explore your image editing program. ^^ If you're ever curious about whether something can be done, just look it up on google, there are tutorials for every image editing program! I wish you luck, and please don't feel down. D:
