falling sakura petals:
4.9.2006

Taken at a Shintó shrine in downtown Kyoto, the sakura in full bloom. Sakura are the "Japanese cherry blossom", a symbol of the fleeting life of a samurai as they only grew, blossomed, and wilted in a matter of two weeks or so.

A wonderful holiday known as "hanami", or the flower-viewing festival commemorated the event every spring, where locals flock to shrine gardens and public spaces to view flowers, barbeque, and set off fireworks by the river.

Notes on the photo:

Taken with a Sony DSC S90, an entry level point-and-shoot digital I received at no charge back in high school. Lighting was natural, with no flash, taken at mid-day from a bridge looking through a low-hanging sakura tree.

NOTE: I had started a blog elsewhere (called PHsquared) and disliked the formatting, so my first few entries will be literal copy/pastes from there. I only posted like 3, 4 things on there, so afterwards it will be all new photographs.
