When doing shines spots: the key is to color everything but the shine. And remember: the shine reflects/follows the SHAPE of the object. A round object will have a shine the follows its shape; ect. As well as for the edge. On more metalic/shiny suface- the area around the shine will be darker than the other colors. Almost shadow like. And the shine itself will be more colorless. FOr something more like hair: the edge will be more jagged (to get a good effect color up to the shine. do not draw a line around the shine! Remember: when coloring; the motions should always follow the shape and texture of the object. :3) and there might be a lighter hue of color within the shine itself. :3
I hope that helps. :3 I'll see if I can find a good guide or something on it.. Let me know if you have any questions or need any clarification! X3
oh my, I'm not really good with with coloring.. >.< and I haven't tried to color something shiny.. but I guess I can help you about the shading..
when your finish with your drawing.. try to find some places where there's need to put some shadings, like the shadows, the folds, someplace dark or black, and etc.. if you think they need to be really dark, put a dark shadings. but when you think they need only little, add some shadings but a little lighter. In any case, don't just add too much shadings, it might overdo your drawing's shading. if you still have questions, just ask.. sorry I can't explain it well, ain't I!?
still.. hope that helps >.< good luck with it!! ^.^
