Story Description
Two warring organizations, the Gamilus-Galman Empire and the Bolar Federation end up tearing the universe in two while fighting for dominance of it. Things take a turn for the worse when the Gamilus-Galman Empire accidentally launches a planet-destroyer missile into Earth's sun while tempting to attack a Bolar ship, causing the sun itself to become nuclear. After scientists predict that the nuclear reactions on the sun will soon destroy all life on Earth in 365 days, the Yamato crew, now officlaly under command of Susumu Kodai and with the inclusion of new recruits who just graduated from their military academy training, enter a voyage to find a new planet suitable for humans to live on as they need to get all humans off Earth or perform a difficult task to find the requirements to prevent a supernova from resulting from nuclear fusion in the sun. During the voyage, the Yamato crew end up getting caught and intervening in the war between the Gamilus-Galman Empire and the Bolar Federation, with the Galman side of the Gamilus-Galman Empire attacking the Yamato, not knowing that the ships' crew are friends of Lord Dessler until later on. Eventually, the Yamato crew meets Princess Ruda of Shalbart, who manages to help them by giving them a weapon capable to destroying the nuclear fusion in Earth's sun. In the end, the Yamato saves Earth from the nuclear fusion and the Bolar federation is defeated.
