I know. She wouldn't even watch the beginning. It's almost time to get all his movies and watch them in two days! I did a school research paper on hayao miyazaki. 104! All those Japanese words I had to pronounce I was like, "Don't mess up." We had to do a ppt too.
She watched Ponyo, but she thought My Neighbor Totoro was weird!? I think Ponyo is more weird than My Neighbor Totoro. Yes! Force her to watch Spirited Away! It's won an Academy Award, maybe that might get her to watch it!
Lol. I got my mom to watch Ponyo. She just needs to watch all of his other movies. I tried to get her to watch My Neighbor Totoro but she said it looked weird. I love Spirited Away so I told her I'm dragging her to watch it with me.
Wow...my parents would never watch any of that stuff. My brother and I have got them to watch Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke, but they didn't really like any of those that much..."orz
I know. My dad tried to watch a bleach episode while I was watching online and I told him he needs to start on episode 1. The only thing close to anime they watched was Avatar the last airbender. I'm not sure if it's considered fully anime though.
Yeah. I loved when Light came up with that drawer system to keep the notebook safe. I got so lost watching that. Then I was explaining it to my mom. My plan to get her to watch failed.
Yeah...Near kinda just seemed like the same character even though he wasn't...O.o; That's also what bothered me about Near. And, yeah, haha, Light DOES make you want to do better in school! XD
lol I found I didn't enjoy Near much either. He was like an L clone. I got kind of sad when Mello was killed also. But Light was so smart. His character kind of made me wanna do better at school. His plans were so well thought out.
Yeah. When I first saw him I hated him so much. I thought Mello was funny because he was always eating that same chocolate bar but Light was my favorite character until he went psycho.
I don't LOVE L. He's not my favourite character of Death Note, but I have respect for him because he wasn't created to be particularly lovable. He was supposed to be the weirdo, yet people still love him. I would say that makes him a pretty good character.
Oh, I totally agree with you. My whole rant was about people comparing other characters because of what they did. I can't see how that makes any sense. I'm pretty neutral when it comes to the polling, but as I voted for the characters I was disappointed in the choices because most of the characters weren't really that amazing to me. It just makes me sad that everyone's so mainstream, but I guess that's what mainstream is...>3>
I'm not actually THAT fond of Sailor Moon, but she was an option so I went with it. I like the anime and manga, but not so much singling out the characters. It's the other characters that make one character seem great, not that character itself. I dunno...the whole thing's pretty complicated and hard to compare.
I gotta really agree with you in the character poll thing. Ed is okay, I guess, and he's been through a lot. But he's the one who put himself through it all, even if on accident, he wasn't being very smart. He's the 'good-guy-with-tough-exterior-that-isn't-all-that-tough' type. I mean, I don't have anything against him, not at all, I just don't see anything that special about him that would have him win the poll. But then again, I never agreed with the idea of the poll to begin with. I'm kinda afraid people are going to use this as a reason to put down other characters, saying that their's are better because more people voted for them. Um....sorry, I'm done now.
I was quite glad that Ed won the poll, overall, 'cause I'm not really fond of Sailor Moon, but then I agree with what you said, that there is no such thing as the greatest anime character. In addition, I also thought that the poll should've been split into categories for male and female characters.
And um, Ed did save the universe, in the manga and the 2nd anime. (I'm not 100% sure about the first anime, never watched it except for Conqueror Of Shamballa, which I didn't really like).
Lol...until now, I too, find the Code Geass pairings absurd. (Not all of them, just most of em XD). XD

...Well...none of my favourites were really on there...O.o; I just don't like Ed or FMA. I've seen a few episodes but I never liked any of them in particular, they all made me bored, even the ones with the action...>3>

Honestly, I've only seen 4 episodes and read a little of the FMA book so I knew ed and I've never watched Sailor Moon so yeah. :) I know how ya feel. All my faves got voted out. T.T
Well, I can see how that's true and it gives me relief that you would say that. But I should always be considerate of other people when making posts because I'm posting it on the internet, which is public. *shrugs*
You weren't being rude. You were stating what you thought of him. Your world is made for YOU to say WHATEVER you want about ANYTHING (besides other people xD;;)
So, you're fine!
No, no, you were very kind! I was the one who was being rude in the post!
Most of the time with the titles I put I just put whatever I'm thinking at the time that's short...O.o; So titles, for me, are just there to be there, or for attention, whatever.
I'm glad you're not offended! TT^TT I don't mean to offend anyone, but I still feel that I'm being rude with what I'm saying. I feel there is a sharp edge to every word...'orz
I'm not really offended, and you're entitled to your opinion. I truly hope I didn't seem rude or anything >3>
I know, but I was just explaining my opinion on his winning xD;
Maybe I was rude, or something? But, hopefully I didn't offend you o3o You didn't offend me =3
You made good points as well *thinks we're both logical*
Ah, dude. I'm not mad, offended or upset. I'm just fooling around XD
Your title was a little *twitch* cause I'm such a huge Edward fan, but I just did THE SAME THING to Orihime from Bleach, so I understand where you're coming off!
I'm not offended. IT was awesome to read your opinions and your points. So, it's all good =3=
I'm very sorry! TT^TT I didn't mean to offend you! But I don't think anybody should take things so personally. Don't take things personally, you may end up hurting yourself more than is ever intended.
I never say such harsh things as 'hate' and being serious about it. Though I should learn that this is the internet and people perceive explanations for things differently...
Again, I'm very sorry for hurting your feelings! I just wanted to throw out there some talking points! TT^TT
...Maybe I should put a warning about me never actually being serious. This is my opinion, you shouldn't be personally offended by it. I'm sorry if you were, I should be not so harsh with my words. I knew this would happen, and I sort of planned it. I enjoy arguments~! ^ ^
My point about Sailor Moon saving the universe and Ed not was that they're too different of characters to actually compare. And you also make the point of FMA being more realistic. That's exactly it. They're in two different places that couldn't really be compared...O.o; And they both do big things in both of their words, but none of it is actually worth mentioning because it's anime. We EXPECT them to do great things. Which is why nobody ever associates plain shoujo school life characters as being great...that's so sad...where's the love for them? TT^TT
And one more time, referring to the big thing you just wrote (I like to reply to all the points, but I feel I can just repeat something to my point clearer) FMA is more realistic and has different goals and has more emphasis on emotion than Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is mostly the action and the nice stories with all the prettiness. It's hard to say that any of them did great things.
FMA is more mature than Sailor Moon so I would expect for it to have more feeling. Sailor Moon is a kids show.
But I do believe from all the other anime I've watched that's loads better than FMA or Sailor Moon, neither of them are very good characters. It just takes somebody who is more...I guess gentle and open-minded to anime to fall in love with characters like these. This is why I like Sailor Moon, because when I was little I really loved the show, so she has a special place in my heart. But that doesn't make her a good character...Neither does it make Ed a good character. Just because you (and I'm sorry this sounds harsh...'orz) think that whatever he did was touching and more important and more harsh than Sailor Moon or other characters doesn't make him a good character. Also, if a character's 'been through a lot' I don't count that as being a good character either.
As much as I love Deadman Wonderland, I'll say this. Ganta Igarashi's mother (supposedly) died during an earthquake, he father I think died when he was younger...(I dunno, they don't talk about his father) then after the earthquake all his classmates were massacred including his best friends by a 'red man' and he was framed for it so he was sent to a major prison and was stolen from and the director attempted to murder him, but when he found about his powers he was sent to another level and made to fight, and if he lost he'd lose a body part. So he tries to leave and he changes from a wimpy middle schooler to a strong heroic character. Besides all that 'he's been through' I still think he's a crap character. (I tried not to spoil the story...I worry if I have...'orz)
That is kind of you to say that Sailor Moon was deserving of high ranks, too, but I don't really care about Sailor Moon...O.o; I just like the anime. Sailor Moon's at the bottom of my favourite character list for Sailor Moon...>3>
Thank you for being kind with me and having good points even though I had been rude and harsh. I don't mean for anybody to take anything I say personally...
I didn't read the whole post (Sorry, and I don't know anything about the other characters you mentioned) but I did read the part about hating Edward.
Glad to know you're not MAD though you truly seem it.
There is no such thing as the greatest anime character, per se. It's all matter of opinion. Though, clearly, more people on theO prefer Edward over Sailor Moon, so he is "TheOtaku's Greatest Character of 2011".
You don't know what he did, so you can't say he didn't save the universe. He DID save the universe. (Well, the world more like because FMA is a little more realistic than visiting the future, other planets and stuff like that.) Edward saved a lot of people, and of course, stopped all the bad guys, thus, saving the world. Two worlds, actually, if you count the FMA movie.
He won because he fit the criteria more. His back story is a lot more than Serena's (Serena went through diddly squat compared to what Edward was gone through, and that's part of the criteria; his back story is one of the saddest that I know of, and I know quite a few people who agree) his personality progresses a lot more (Serena did start out as an annoying whiny baby, and she does become more bold, brave and stronger through the series, but she's still weak and a bit of a baby, whilst Edward shows a lot of change in his strength, his motives, his compassion towards people and his maturity as well), he handles tough situations better, too. He may act impulsively because of his short temper and the fact his emotions control his actions sometimes, but he doesn't cry all the time like Serena, therefore, he handles it better. The fact his biggest motivation is something of his own personal desire (to fix his brother's body and his limbs) instead of something corny and heroic (like Serena, who's only out to "save the universe") makes him more realistic, thus, easier for people to relate to and understand.
Both characters have had a huge impact on the anime world. Serena has probably had as large of one as Edward because she's an old, classic character every one knows. But, most people agree that FMA and the Elric's back story and what they go through in the anime is much more tragic and emotional than anything that has ever happened in Sailor Moon. Therefore, Edward/FMA has left a much larger emotional impact on a lot of people.
Sailor Moon definitely deserved to make it high on the list, for she's been an iconic character for a lot of anime fans for such a long time. But her progression and her true impact on a lot of people has been much less than Edward's has. Edward won by almost 200, if not 200. He beat her by quite a lot, and he deserved it.
