Aw, yeah, I love Ouran. A lot of people complain that's it's cookie-cutter, though, but I don't think so because Haruhi is not like any other shoujo main character. I mean, yes there's the regular gender bender main girl, but this Haruhi doesn't mean to be, she just is, and she is so natural instead of being a hard-head.
I never thought of it as a parody. That's a really good point! O.O
Ahahah! You gave me much confidence for my story because I think mine has similar points...a little bit of parodying and different kind of backstories...possibly? Maybe? :D
Haha okay, I thought so too, but I just wanted to make sure. XP
What is your favourite shoujo manga?
I think it would have to be Ouran Highschool Host Club. I honestly didn't think I was gonna like it, because I usually don't finish the shoujo that I try to read and because of cookie cutter storylines, but I dunno...something just made me wanna read more of it. I thought it was gonna be just like the others and it could still be perceived as such but...eh I'll explain further haha
Why is it your favourite?
I think the fact that it kind of parodies other shoujo, not necessarily all, but a lot of them. Like it would have all the typical male characters you would find in a shoujo and the guys in the manga are all about catering to females who go for those types of characters. I also like the fact that the guys constantly keep changing themes throughout the story. Yeah, I like the whole theme changing thing because I always want to see what outfits and environments they could come up with.
Is there something different about it than most that sticks out to you?
The thing that made me wanna read more of it was the fact that the main character was mistaken for a boy and they thought she was a boy for a brief duration of the storyline. And I just thought it was funny that everyone in the school thought she was a boy (and actually throughout the whole storyline, I don't think people knew she was a girl? Only the guys in the club knew....I can't remember). The thing that stuck out was just also how obviously shoujo the guys were. I mean, it's like that in every other shoujo manga, but then these guys just kinda parody off that. I think that's the main part that stuck out to me. Also the main girl, she was different as well. She's not the usual girly girl either and she's smart. I think that's why I liked the manga as well.
What kind of scenes get you in shoujo manga? Are these kinds of scenes common?
The kinds of scenes that get me in shoujo manga are the parts when the guy's telling his past life story, but it's totally different from his current life. Or that his actual life is something you wouldn't expect of him. And then the girl finds out and he's either sheepish, defiant, or whatever but then he realizes that she understands him. I guess I like the drama/real hits-toward-home aspect part of the storyline.
How would you describe the 'main guy' character?
Outgoing, wants to please everybody, tries to be compassionate and understanding to all kinds of people, altruistic and just downright silly when it comes to trying to help all people. He just gets himself into silly situations sometimes.
How would you describe the conflicts?
I'm not really sure, but they could get dramatic, like a misunderstanding of situations sort of thing. I usually like to see these conflicts because they tap into the pscyhe and real emotion seems to play out.

Before I answer these questions, I just wanna make sure first if Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club are shoujo...I feel sheepish for not knowing, hahaha XP
Yeah, feel the same way. I liked Full Moon (not that I've read it all), but Gentleman's Alliance isn't....as spectacular, I guess...It just has so many random details and background stories that it loses the focus and it becomes boring.
Aww, thank you so much! You gave me so much confident/spirit~! X3
That won't mean I won't like the guy character. xD I just mean I have a tendency to choose the funny characters as favorites, while still liking the others. :D
I think Arina Tanemura's art is really pretty... like, it's the definition of shoujo art! xD But sometimes I just don't like the stories... >3> I did like Full Moon, but Gentleman's Alliance Cross kind of lost me...
Morning Musume is like the only j-pop group I've heard of, and it's because of Arina Tanemura. xD
Nah, it doesn't need to be cutesy! :D Too much cutesy can get annoying. Just do whatever will make you most pleased with your manga, and the rest of us will ove it too! ;u;
Ah, the manga looked interesting. I thought about reading it (or maybe I have, but can't remember)
Yes, yes, you make complete sense. And I'm glad you don't like the excess of sparkliness...'cause...mine currently has none...'orz (Though I probably should since stars and sparkles are kinda important for idols...y'know...O.o;)
Ah....but you might not like my main male character...Well, who knows. He's supposed to be more girly and cutesy than most guys, but he's just very boyish deep down (it's just his 'image' to be cute).
Ah, yes, this totalleh helps.
Aww, I like Arina Tanemura (but that's MAINLY because she likes Morning Musume so I'm like 'I HAVE TO LIKE THIS MANGA'...XD Gotta support the fans...'orz).
Hrmm...innocent...hrmmm...
I think my manga just isn't that cutesy...>3> It needs to be (but style ugh...)
What is your favourite shoujo manga?
Cactus's Secret by Nana Haruta
Why is it your favourite?
I thought it was very cute without being annoying... if that makes sense. xD I also like the main characters. There's a lot of humor in it, too. :9 Oh, and one think I like about it is that the manga artist doesn't abuse sparkly screentones. xD Compare to Kamichama Karin Chu by Koge Donbo to know what I mean about sparkly abuse. xD
Is there something different about it than most that sticks out to you?
I think the main character stands out. To me, she seems like a very real girl, or something. Like, she's concerned with love, but she's not obsessive over having a boyfriend or only talks about boys.
I also like that the main male character isn't extremely girly. xD This is probably just personal preferene, but I get a little annoyed when a boy character is supposed to act like a boy, but he acts nothing like a boy... not that all boys act the same, but still.
I don't make any sense BAH.
What kind of scenes get you in shoujo manga? Are these kinds of scenes common?
In shoujo manga in general? Um... Sometimes I like date scenes? xD I don't read enough shoujo manga to know what kind of specific scenes I like. I like scenes where interesting things about the characters are revealed or something... >3>
In Cactus's Secret, I like the scenes where there's dramatic irony and the guy doesn't know that the girl likes him, I guess. :m Which is pretty common.
How would you describe the 'main guy' character?
In Cactus's Secret, the main guy is kind of stupid and dense. xD; WHICH IDK, I JUST LIKE STUPID CHARACTERS... because they're funny. :9
He was also a former delinquent or something.
How would you describe the conflicts?
The conflicts were usually between the main girl and main guy, and how their different personalities caused tension. Like he didn't care about what he would do after high school, and she was very concerned with getting a stable job. Also, there were things like how he used to go out with a lot of girls in middleschool, and a misunderstanding with an old friend of his. YUP.
Hope this helps, maybe. ;o I don't read a whole lot of shoujo manga because the ones I find in the book store are usually kind of cliche or improbable, like a lot of the ones by Arina Tanemura. But I kind of like innocent-corny shoujo like Card Captor Sakura. xD
Good luck with your manga! :D
I thought Koibana! Koiseyo Hanabi was pretty good and the writing for KouKou Debut was also pretty good. The others I read would have been better but I would find problems with it, like being wayy too slow, having terrible art, or the one that really kills it is the bad writing...;m; But these were enjoyable (I say this as if I've finished them, I haven't! XD)
Thank you so much~! X3 Yeah...I thought some of these would be hard to answer because I feel my questions are maybe a bit too specific?
Haha~ You seem to be looking through so much shoujo~ Which ones did you find was good?
Oh, that violating scenario gets on my nerves too~ @_@
I'll answer your questions then: What is your favourite shoujo manga? Kingyo Sou by Fujitsuka Yuki
Why is it your favourite?
It's very sweet and heartwarming, but also more true to life and realistic than other shoujos I've read before~ And I really like the other relationships and strong friendships between the other supporting characters too.
Is there something different about it than most that sticks out to you?
The main guy is deaf, which is very different than others, and the main focus isn't always on the main couple~
What kind of scenes get you in shoujo manga? Are these kinds of scenes common?
Ohohohohoo~! When the main guy does something sweet or considerate for the girl~ Or when he saves her~ Gah, I can't think~ >///<
How would you describe the 'main guy' character?
In Kingyo Sou, the main guy is deaf, and so he has avoided the outside world as much as he can. He's very aloof, but as he gets to know the main girl, he starts to warm up and start his life again~
How would you describe the conflicts?
The conflicts aren't dramatic like other shoujos, but more of psychological/internal conflicts that occur within the main characters.
