I've actually heard this story in several different places, NPR bothered me the most, though, because this was a type of news media that I respected and then I talks about men in Japan becoming more feminine and how this is a problem (which is really isn't). It just bothers me that they would even report it. It's not news or anything, it's just commenting on another society, which does not belong on national public radio or anything that people look at as something serious.
Personal hygiene-ness does not equate to gayness, which is sorta my point. Just because they're caring more about their personal hygiene does not mean that they're gay in any way or has anything to do with their sexuality, yet in America (especially where I live) any trace of care alerts others of your sexuality...for some reason...O.o;
The increase in personal hygiene for men should not be labeled as 'herbivore men' it's just a good outcome...but that's not the approach any of the media places I looked at said.
And the freaking out about eyebrows thing I'm not sure...I just remember it well because it was on NPR (don't remember when or what the report was focusing on), but my mom looked and me and said something about how all the Japanese are so gay or are really weird and how that's disturbing that they'd want to trim their eyebrows. It's their decision, why is this a problem?
Also, I don't really know how to describe the interaction I was talking about, but, yeah, it is prevalent in our society because it's HUMAN, but it's often criticized when it's on public TV. I remember when that Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr. came out, Robert Downey Jr. joked that it had a lot of homosexual stuff in it, and people threw a fuss about it.
Sorry for ranting...but I find there are many holes in America's news media. ;3;

No, no, you're right.
