Yeah her characters have more realistic looks to them which I like more than the "big eyed" manga characters. Oh btw, I liked that OC pic you did for the alternate approach challenge. The style was really cool.

Oh gosh that was a real manga drawing book? Haha. I use Irene Flores' books. She's really good with clothes and stuff and I have a hard time with that sometimes.
It's just a shame when I see the 'teenage phase' in adults who are new to drawing...'orz That or they draw barns and flowers...:D
Haha, yeah, I usually just look at the art of the people I follow. But when I'm on pixiv I look at the popular art, so why shouldn't I like at it on DA...but I never find as much awesome art as I do on pixiv.
Pixiv is nice...I think on most of those art scan sites the majority of the pics are from pixiv...(a bit annoying because then you don't actually know who did that picture)
I mean, it's good when you don't use a reference...but...NEVER using a reference is really hard to do...and only makes you improve incredibly slowly.
Actually, I think you do a really good job of being creative and original. Even the stuff you have that might have just the girl and rose thing going on, it doesn't seem to be the focal point and there are other interesting things going on in the picture. And when it comes to pretty boys they actually look different from your girls. It's the kind of pretty boys like this that aren't favorable.
I don't know how to explain it exactly...but when it looks like typical teenage art I just feel sorry for the person. I did art like that, too...and it kinda bothers me that people who are older than me, but new to art do the same sorts of things. I think if people stepped back and said 'no' to the cliches then DeviantArt would look more like pixiv.
Pixiv has it's problems, too, but looking through the 'most popular' I can at least find one artist that blows my mind while with DA I have to stick to looking at the favourites of other artists because looking on the front page I just see the same stuff.
Yeah, I have been going back to the basics.....and try to draw everyday too. That blog on how to draw eyes is so helpful and those quotes are inspirational, nice find

She's the type where you can tell she draws from life. I haven't read any of her books, but I'm sure they're informative in the good way.
