Ah, I know what you mean. I personally liked the dark and violent turn it took, but in the anime it did not have a nice transition into it. At least in the manga it was shocking and it weird, like a strange wonderland, but the anime was just...thrown at you. Now he's in jail! Now he has special powers! Now everyone is dying! Instead of giving you that trippy weird experience.
And I love those kinds of stories, too! Which is why the Count of Monte Cristo is me favourite book. I like those stories because it can show how perceptions can be wrong or something...I don't know how to say it exactly, but it's a nice take on life.
I will admit that it the series had potential. For some reason I'm drawn to stories where the hero is wrongly accused of a crime (heck, I wrote a fanic like that once). My problem with the show though aside from it not actually ending, was it was just a little too dark and bloody for my taste. I'm a little okay with that kind of stuff, but only in small doses.
I dislike that, too....It's like 'why even bother' if you aren't going to finish it along with the manga. But I liked that arc that they had in the anime, if they continued it we'd just see the worst side of Deadman Wonderland. I didn't really like the anime so much because the atmosphere felt different and they put some major spoilers in the ending credits and then never addressed them...O.o;

I saw the Deadman Wonderland anime and greatly regretted doing so afterward (I only watched it because there was nothing else on a Saturday night). Anyway, another big problem with the anime is that it's pretty much an unfinished story. It kind of irritates me sometimes when they take an unfinished manga, turn the first few story arcs into an anime, then either just leave the thing hanging or come up with some weird and/or crappy ending.

Haha! XD Well the good thing is that some other manga I've really liked didn't end so badly~! :D
Nah, but I have heard you talk about it and I'm pretty sure it's on one of my many many lists of things I need to get to reading/watching...'orz
