i have to hold my tounge. it shouldn't really be that hard, becasue I have a fairly mellow personality most of the time.
EXCEPT when it's my dad. because we are so much alike, when we argue,we can go on for hours. Still, i really wish there was a way to get him to stop arguing about japanese...he doesn't have to like it, i just want him to accept the fact that this is who I am.

and about your dad.
that is pretty rough. I will *assume* you live in America..(may I assume that?!?!?!) and so it kinda sucks that in a few years there will be more people speaking spanish than english anyway.
at least there is someone who understands my situation.
and still, my dad hates the aspect of my life that MAKES ME UNIQUE. it just sucks.
my dad also hates blacks. it isn't as dominet as his hate of japanese and intracial couples though. so i see where you're comig from there too....
i love my dad..but sheesh....It seems like both our dads need to calm down

he gives me back my sketchbook alright...and no matter how hard I try, it seems like he wants me to just act like an adverage american teenage girl. it kinda sucks sometimes....but other times he's just fine. i love my dad. i love beeing around my dad. but sometimes he jsut makes me mad.

I can't really give you much advice, I suppose, besides hold your tongue so you don't say something you regret. I understand, for several reasons.

-My dad is an absolutely racist. He cannot find anything nice to say about Spanish people. He is always insulting them and carrying on and on about them. If I accidentally say "No problemo" instead of just "No problem", he gets pissed and tells me not to speak Spanish. He would literally want me out of his life if I dated a Spanish man.
-He's not very nice to blacks either. He always tells me not to date a black person, and he refers to them with that ugly "n" word. It pisses me off so much.
-He tells me that inter-racial couples are wrong, yet my older sister is dating someone from Bangladesh!
-My dad gives me the same sorta shit about religion. I'm an Atheist, and he believes in God. He calls me "short of evil" for my beliefs.

He's always retorting about my trying to learn to play music and telling me to never get into music as a career.

Feel like I'm babbling, sorry. My only advice is not to make the mistake I have and actually tell him what you think about it. Your Dad sounds like mine, where he's not very open-minded and his head is stuck in the past when things like that WAS wrong, or when things like that happened. I understand your frustrations, but there's so much more heartache when you actually talk about it :/

Agree until he gives you the sketch book, then assert your individuality.
