Kita sighed and picked up her pace. At least one good thing will come of this. She will get to see Juushiro and hopefully Tsukiro before she is sentenced. She just hoped they won't remember her like this and know she was sorry for all her wrong doings.
Shunsui released another long sigh. "Well, let's hope it's not that hopeless for us," he muttered, half to himself. He shaded his eyes from the sun, glancing up at the perfect, cloud-tossed sky ahead.
Otherwise, it won't be a pretty sight...
He squeezed Kita's shoulder. "Keep going. I'm afraid I am not allowed to let you linger here."
Blocking the bright light from her eyes when they exited she squinted and looked up into the blue sky. The wind gentling blowing and the song birds dancing in flight. She listened to Kyoraku has he spoke then shook her head casting her eyes to the ground.
"No. It's only the beginning." She looked up into the bright sky once more. "For I will be reborn. It is everyone here I fear for." She looked to Kyoraku has he walked beside her. "I know you have lived through much Captain, but if I am to be sentenced to death--" Her words fell short as she looked forward once more shaking her head. "I am sure you know the fate of the Soul Society and everyone in it, if that judgment is passed."

Shunsui sighed, scratching the back of his neck again. "I don't know, Kita. Better hold onto that wish until we get there then ask."
He set a hand on her shoulder as they walked through the Maggot's Nest to the door on the others side of the wide meeting place in the center. Eyes watched them as they moved forwards, but no one took a step to intercept them. The light in the captain's eyes was too stern for that kind of entertainment. The shadows stayed where they were, viewing the situation silently.
At the gate, Shunsui nodded. The guards pulled the door back to let in a great beam of light. Birdsong filled the blue skies.
"At least it's a last beautiful day," the captain murmured as the door closed behind them again.
She took the handkerchief from Kyoraku and wiped her tears. "So he got away." Her voice lifted but still held a hint of sadness. "So they only waited for him to feel better so he could watch 46 put me to death? What big hearts they have here."
She sniffled slightly and walked past Kyoraku. She looked back over her shoulder at him. "I hope I can get one last request out of this. Think they will be that humain?"

Shunsui's own eyes widened and scratched his head. "He's recovering. Sorry I gave you the wrong impression." He offered her a handkerchief. "He's going to be there today. That is what I meant by waiting for him."

Her eyes widened and her heart sank. "Please tell me he is alright?" Her voice quaked with fear waiting to hear the worst. "H...he's not--" she dropped her head as her eyes started to sting from tears. "Please tell me he is alright?"
She looked up to Kyoraku hot tears streaked her dirty face.
Captain Kyoraku grabbed the back of the guard's uniform, hauling him back and staring into his eyes. "I told you before that she was to remain unharmed, and that means now as well," he stated slowly in his low voice. Letting the white-faced guard go, he offered a hand to Kita, speaking over his shoulder. "Besides, this is now my job, not yours." Not waiting for the guard to reply, he turned back to Kita. "It's been a week, Kita-chan. Yama-jii postponed the sentencing for Juushiro."

Kita stood when he entered the cell not taking her eyes from him. "What is going on? What do you mean you will be my escort? How many days has it been since I was put in here?"
She stepped quickly toward Kyoraku only to find herself being shoved back into the wall by the guard that entered with Kyoraku. Her head hit the stone wall. Her face contorted in pain as she reached for the back of her head.
"I think the Captain knows I am not going to hurt him, jerk!"
"So far," a low baritone voice called out from the door, "the boy is still alive, so I don't think you should be angry and rebellious quite yet." Kita looked up at the face of Captain Kyoraku. Though he wore his usual bright kimono, his eyes were unusually dark, grim or perhaps sad. He waved then stepped aside for the guard to open her cell. "I'm your escort for the day," he said, lowering his head to enter. "Hope you don't mind, Kita," he inquired quietly with a very slight hint of his usual teasing tone.
