The fact that these people even felt the need to do that is pathetic. They may think they came out with the laugh, but really they've just betrayed something about the quality of their own characters that is downright pitiable. I almost feel sorry for them.

I am unfortunate enough not to know you very well, but you seem like a genuinely nice, kindhearted person. They're the ones with the issue, not you. I know it's hard not to obsess about things like this (because I totally do it myself), but try not to let their cruelty get you down or make you pissed -- they're not worth that much of your time.
