I suggest you practice by catching flies in your hand.
When I was with my dad in the summertime he opened up the balcony doors so flies kept pouring into the house left and right and since we didn't have a swatter we'd clap them to death or catch them and crush them.

I got good, I was able to catch them in one hand and crush them in mid-air.

One time I saw somebody literally smack a bee out of midair onto the ground and then step on it...That's crazy.
