Well, if you consider that Sawyer got knocked over and didn't wake up before the episode was over, it'd be weird if they didn't apply the same "logic" for Lapidus as well (unconscious from the blow and therefore drowned due to lack of air) BUT they didn't show his floating body... so yeah, it's possible he's still alive. Dunno if I feel ok with that, lol. Not when Sayid, Sun and Jin died.
And about Sawyer not laying off the bomb, it's impossible for him to get why Jack's telling him to leave it alone since he doesn't know about the part with Jack&Richard experiencing the dynamite not going off. 'Sides, with all that he's gone through it'd be a VERY big leap of faith to think "yeah let's just sit back and watch the countdown because Jack says it'll all be fiiiiiiine" ^_^;
A quick thought in regards to Jacob's plan: with Jin and Sun dead my theory of "not having your name crossed out immunizes you from death" goes out the window, haha. Sadness.
You know, more than anything lately, I'm seeing this whole thing as a game of Chess between Evil!Locke and Jacob/whoever else (do you reckon there are more of their "race" watching this go down? I have a hard time accepting them to be ordinary humans, lol). Everyone's been pulling for there to be some deeper meaning, something they can understand and grasp. Anything to make sense of everything that's happened to them thus far. It'd just be the ultimate bullet to your brain to find out that it's nothing more than a callous game between two entities that don't care about who gets pulled in (with one of them wanting back-up if he lost).
Finally: I saw this episode before my dad and as I handed it over to him it almost slipped out of my mouth that Desmond was still alive :X It's really hard to keep things to yourself at this point! xD
There are two more episodes, and then the two-and-a-half hour series finale airing on May 23.
I've been wondering where Richard/Ben/Ghostbuster are as well. They'll probably pop up again soon, but it is a bit grating to see them disappear for so long.
Where do you stand on Lapidus' potential death, btw? I've long since learned not to assume someone is dead unless we see definitive proof of death ... but at the same time, I'm not very optimistic about this.
As for Kate continuing to live, you know where I stand on that, but I do think there is an interesting dual purpose to that and Sayid, Sun and Jin dying in suck quick succession. For one, obviously it makes Evil Locke look like that much more of a prick for killing off such beloved characters.
But it also adds that much more gray to Jacob's plan -- just how many people will be left by the end? There have been so many parallels (obvious even to me, haha) between Jacob and the Christian God -- works in mysterious ways, plan not really clear to the followers, often comes with results that seem obscenely unfair, etc. Bad things happen to good people, and sometimes bad people escape no worse for the wear. It makes the plan that much more difficult to follow.
Take the scene where Sawyer pulls the plug on the C4 rig, for instance. Obviously the audience is screaming for him not to do it, but why would he hold off, given everything that he has been through on the island? It would be insane. If I were in Sawyer's shoes, I would have pulled the wires without much hesitation. Staying on track with a plan that has brought so much pain -- even if it may be ultimately right -- is horribly difficult.

*clings* Jack and Rose (ala Titanic) can eat their hearts out! *sobs some more*
How many episodes are there this season? I have some vague memory of there being fewer but can't recall precisely.
And where is Richard/Ben/Ghostbuster? And what're they doing? Also, Sayid's death totally redeemed his emo phase. Talk about honorable discharge.
BUT WHY DID KATE HAVE TO SURVIVE??????!!!!!! That made the loss of Sun*Jin even harder to bare ;___;
