I'm torn on what to believe, lol. At first I was totally thinking the same thing as you, primarily because of what that woman said would happen if you entered the cave "You won't die, it's much worse than that" (paraphrased).
.... You know when Evil!Locke first appeared and Sun + Frank met Christian? I don't think the Smoke Monster can be at two places at the same time so... Grawr *confuses herself* Never mind ¨*_*¨
MIB's spirit is certainly stuck on the island. His body .... How many years does it take for bones to completely, er, disintegrate? Because they were pretty intact when Flight 815 crashed. *stops brain* Not going to think about time lines! >_<
Ok, I can't give a definitive answer xD; But right now I'm leaning more towards a merger of/exchange between Smokey and MIB. Probably. Or something ._.

It sounded like Spanish at certain points, but it probably wasn't. Guess it depends on when this episode actually takes place (which isn't cleared up).
And, no, they never say the Man in Black's name, haha. Kind of frustrated a good deal of people.
What do you think about the end when Jacob shoves the Man in Black into the cave with the light, and then the Smoke Monster comes out? Originally, I thought that the Man in Black's soul somehow bonded with something in that cave to become the Smoke Monster (or perhaps bonded with the Smoke Monster, which was in there already), and the Man in Black's body was left behind as an empty husk. I still lean toward that theory, but some have tossed out the idea that the Man in Black is actually the first form the Smoke Monster took, and that it's just the Smoke Monster trying to get off the island.
It's interesting. Both theories have their merits -- and with the second theory, I like the irony that Jacob and the Man in Black are set up like a sort of Cain and Abel pair, but this time it's Abel who kills Cain and has to pay the price.
