Dare: WELL YOU SEE, the song was made during the American Revolutionary War, I think. That was when there was conflict between America and Great Britian. Yank (or yankee?) was British slang for an American, and it wasn't a nice word, and was more of an... insult-y word. :/ The line "stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni" is also an insult. Macaroni was a sophisticated, powdered wig hairstyle, I think... and the British were insulting the American's unclassy... stuff. :/ Yeah. Because Feather + Hat ≠ macaroni. :D
But for some reason, us Americans were like "HEY, THIS SONG IS PRETTY COOL." and now we like it and it's an American song. 8D
