NH4 is easy to understand, no we were just learning the polyatomic ions with oxygen the 'ates' and 'ites'....No wait, we were learning all of them...in three freaking days...stupid teacher...>.> It was NO4...
I understood that whole part, but my questions were more the questions at the end of your post...XD And my good science teacher told me that we shouldn't be learning that stuff now...yet we were being tested over it...I made the highest grade on the test and it was a fairly low 80 (he brought it up to a ninety, but that doesn't really count) so obviously none of us knew how to read all of those polyatomic ions...Ridiculousness...>.>
If only I was told this...ummm...before we started the lesson...Ugg....
Are you talking about ions and their charges? xD
The NO4 ion wasn't one we had to memorize so I'm not familiar with it (maybe you meant NH4, aka ammonium? That has a +1 charge), but I can explain SO4, and why it's charge -2. :d oxygen always has a charge of -2, and sulfur can have a charge of -2, +4, or +6. Assuming Sulfur in the case of the SO4 ion has a charge of +6, and oxygen has a charge of -2, three of the oxygen ions cancel out the charge of the Sulfur ion, while the fourth oxygen ion leaves the total SO4 ion with a charge of -2. (I hope that made sense. orz)
But then there's always the question of "why can oxygen only have a charge of -2?" and "How come sulfur can have multiple charges?" I've only taken a basic chemistry class, and those questions would probably be answered in a college level course.
But it's better to just memorize certain ions b/c the multiple charges a certain element has can get confusing...
Yes, that somehow it the part that needs answering...*shakes head* I always ask questions about things like this...XD Like about why SO4 is 2 and NO4 is 1 (or something like that)...O.o; My stupid science teacher never explained this to me, until my other science teacher told us that we're just supposed to memorize that...>.> Then we have a test over it and I have no clue what I was supposed to memorize since a lot of them are different...'orz

Well according to Darwinism, we developed over time to accomodate for our surroundings, and somehow ended up with beards on dudes and no beards on girls. I guess.
And yeah, I guess hormones come into play too. :d Like how hormones differ between girls and boys. But I'm not a biologist, I don't know anything about this stuff. xD
And that still doesn't answer my question...>3> Where'd the people with the first genes get it? Is it one of those lingering things. Actually, I think it's more about hormones and hormone imbalance 'n stuffs...O.o;
Don't worry too much about it! I'm sure it's not as bad as you think at all! It's just nerve-wrecking at the time! XD
And beards ARE strange things. How come most women don't grow them? And are there some men that can't grow them just like some women who can...O.o; Why are men hairier than women!? Why can't they be the same!? This is hair discrimination!
...sorry...I just start going off on a completely random topic that I don't even agree with...XD

Waaah, I'm nervous for my grade. ;~; I find out on Monday...
xDDD IT IS HAIR DISCRIMINATION! But not really.
The answer to all your questions would be genes, my friend.
