Yeep yeep. :V And that's totes cool with me, yo.
YAY, I'VE CONVINCED YOU I'M NOT INSANE! Haha, sorry for freaking you out initially. .u.;;; And yeah, interesting conversation! You brought up some things I hadn't considered. :D
Good points. I think you're right with your third point, actually. It is annoying to be force-fed everything by the creators, so it makes sense that they would leave some things up to your interpretation. I'm just one of the people who doesn't view them as in love romantically.
Hee hee ah yes, about that... that was my emotional response but I changed my mind after our discussion. So hooray!! Thanks for an interesting debate!
Interesting point. (And I understand what you're saying, don't worry.) I've come up with a some possible reasons as to why he would respond like that.
1) It could just be his personal way of viewing his characters. Some people see their own characters as individual people who more or less act on their own regardless of what the creator wants. Roddenberry, on the other hand, may be fully aware that his characters are fictional, and has full control over his characters' actions. Some people just have a colder view (?) of producing fictional work.
2) He's acknowledging that multiple people worked on the show's script with him. That is, the characters aren't fully his own, since other people have helped create them. This could also be connected to the first idea, in that he distances himself from his characters because he's not the sole creator of them.
3) He wants to emphasize that both romance Kirk&Spock and friendship Kirk&Spock are correct. Think of it like this: I want make a story where Stefan and Gabe have an ambiguous relationship. It's correct for the viewers to think they like each other, as well as correct for the viewers to think they're friends. If someone asks me, "Are Gabe and Stefan in love?" it makes a lot more sense for me to say "Well, I did suggest love between them, but they can also just be friends" than to say "Well, they are in love, but they're also just friends." I need to say "I did suggest" rather than "Stefan thinks~~" or "Gabe thinks~~~" to maintain that both stances are correct.
You're right in saying that if Kirk/Spock was a definite thing in the series, Roddenberry probably would've outright said "they're in love." It's not a definite thing, but he did intentionally leave it up for interpretation.
I think the 3rd reason is the real reason. (Idk about the first two, they were just ideas. Maybe they have some play into it?) There are actually multiple creators that intentionally leave the relationship between two characters up to the viewers. The main example is CLAMP (Cardcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa), who does this with practically every character in every series of theirs.
A reason why a creator might make two characters' relationship ambiguous is because romance isn't the main focus of the story. This is especially for Star Trek, where space adventure is the main focus. If Kirk and Spock are interpreted as BFFs fo' eva, the story progresses. Likewise, if Kirk and Spock are interpreted as crushin' on each otha, the story progresses in the same way.
I also agree with you in that I don't really like the way the girl argues. SHE'S VERY EMOTIONAL ABOUT HER KIRK/SPOCK! But it's hard to find a die-hard fan who wants to defend k/s that isn't going to have her emotions get in the way. It's also near impossible to find people who don't card stack.
Y-YOU SEEMED TO CARE A LOT WHEN YOU SENT ME THAT REPLY OF MANY A "NO" WITHIN... And I don't mind how you view them, either. I'm just trying to show you I'm not a crazy lady..... ;A;
Haha Beetee and Gale... I'm not going to buy into that one. I think the difference between that and Kirk and Spock is that Roddenberry intentionally made is so that people could interpret his characters romantically, while the author of Hunger Games probably didn't consider it.

I didn't have time to watch the first one, so I just watched the one that you said convinced you the most.
Well I guess there's no arguing with the guy who actually created Star Trek, hahaha. I think his response to the question is weird, though, because he explicitly treats Spock and Kirk as characters rather than people. Like the quote implies that the creator of the characters is controlling the characters rather than the characters having control over themselves. For example, in that quote Roddenberry never says "they feel XYZ way for each other." Instead, he says "there's... some of that," and "we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that." Doing this reduces Kirk and Spock basically to puppets, and so even if they do have a homosexual relationship or homosexual feelings, it's not because of their own feelings for each other, it's because the creator of the show pulled their strings closer together to make them kiss. You know what I mean? (If you don't buy what I'm saying, I understand, haha.)
Also the girl in the video says that in Roddenberry's biography he states that the two loved each other and wanted to have sex but couldn't because of homophobia, but I can't tell if she's exaggerating Roddenberry's words or not, especially since there's no source included for Roddenberry's "official biography," as she calls it.
It's also discrediting to her for not introducing opposing arguments. Haha.
Man, I am taking this way too seriously. I'm just an argumentative person, sorry. :') BELIEVE ME, I don't care if you think they have the potential for a love connection. I'm just not convinced by the character's actions/etc that they are romantically in love with each other.
EDIT: At the same time, when you give a character up to an audience you give the audience permission to interpret your character and then appropriate it. So I guess I can see why people put Kirk and Spock together. It's like GALE AND BEETEE. Hahaha. But yeah you can do what you want with the character once it's out there.

Okie doke. As a warning, she swears a bit. Here's an episode where she says the least amount of racy things: [click]
And here's an episode with what I think is the most interesting point brought up: [click]
IDK, I THOUGHT THEY WERE INTERESTING... I'm not the biggest fan of how she argues her point because she does let her emotions do some talking, but she does have a lot of interesting things to say.
I still think they have a deep friendship. :( I'm fine with both friendship Kirk and Spock, and (reasonable) couple Kirk and Spock. I just don't rule out the possibility of the latter.
I didn't think it was plausible at first, either, but there are some interesting cases that suggest that the creators allowed viewers to interpret their feelings as such.
But you should watch at least one episode of the Ship's Closet to see where I'm coming from...! I personally didn't agree with everything she said, but she did bring up some interesting points.

Kirk is possibly bi, and Spock is half human... so... humans have emotions... I'm sorry I joined the dark side......
I didn't say it was true, I just think it's plausible. It also depends on the writer of the episode.
Oh, well, it was kind of implied that it'd be a non romantic picture for the three of them....................
But after watching "The Ship's Closet" (a youtube show which brings up the possibility of K/S being canonical), I do more or less support Kirk/Spock. :^D (AHA...)
