I guess they weren't as developed as Gon or Killua but I felt there was a sufficient enough time to develop them or at least see multiple sides of them (I consider this development). Knov seemed like the cool, calm, calculating type, but later we learn that he wasn't really. Mereum is introduced as this extremely powerful being who will definitely destroy the human race so he's terrifying since they first introduce him, but then we learn that he has different sides to him as well. Most of the chimera ants are originally shown to be violent and terrifying (I know I was terrified) and then they were shown to be just loyal to their family. Because of that I think HxH cured my insectophobia ('cause now I can sit in a room with a bug and not freak out and jump out a window). So I give a lot of credit to that arc. It's different for every person, though. I usually don't expect much out of shounen so when they hit certain points I am looking for then I am happy. (Mainly making villains less evil, except for Pouf but I guess he's more annoying than evil)
Good luck with Free! I couldn't get past the third episode...(there's usually a certain episode of every anime that I just decide to give up on the anime...) I forced myself to read 66 chapters of Tokyo Ghoul and the anime and that was a terrible terrible never again experience.
That is super weird! I think that's probably what's going on. A lot of the usernames seem pretty generic as well! XD
YEAH, you check out that stuff! *U*b Tiger and Bunny's a lot shorter, it'd probably be easier to watch first, haha.
As for Free... I really do understand why people are into it, and I think it's cool that there are so many fans. A shipping/fanservice-centric anime also isn't necessarily a bad thing, if that's what you're looking for in anime. :Y But yeah... Free! just isn't for me. xD; I will finish it, though.
AH, SHIP CONFLICT SOUNDS PRETTY SCARY... I'D STAY OUT OF THAT STUFF, HAHAHA.
I hear Haikyuu is good, too, so maybe I'll get around to watching that someday, too. BUT WHO KNOWS.
Ah, I saw some of Samurai Flamenco. I heard it gets really strange in the middle (plot doesn't make sense/is really weird), so I dropped it. :U But yeah, I think you're right about the ending.
I've also seen the first episode of Boueibu, but I dropped that, too. (WEH SORRY.) I feel like I like Boueibu in theory (I wouldn't mind seeing more magical boys anime out there), but idk. The first episode was funny, but I'm still a little skeptical. (IDK I'M A PICKY FOOL.) Maybe I'll watch a couple more episodes of it, though, just to see what it's like. :^)
GOOD LUCK IN SCHOOL TOO, MY FRIEND.

You know, I thought I would have appreciated a darker HxH arc, but... it just didn't feel like it was working. :T I found it really difficult to get into the villains because they were introduced just recently... which is just the nature of HxH, having lots of new characters and villains introduced often. But when you change characters so often, it's harder to get into them, especially when you're so attached to the old characters that stick around (Killua and Gon). Or at least, that's how it was for me. I really liked the development with Killua and Gon, but I couldn't really get myself to care about many of the new characters or even the plot...
Yeah, I'm not really a huge fan of moe-cute art styles, myself... but oh well. ;u;/
Wow, you really didn't like Free! xD It's too bad the characters and story don't have a lot to it... I feel like I'm gonna finish watching it, though, 'cause I told my friend I would. :U
Yeah, I think you're right about it being just one person leaving the comments. I went back and looked at the comments, and I think it's all one person, too... A lot of the profiles that posted there only have two reviews: a horrible review for the new Rozen Maiden, and a fantastic review for the old Rozen Maiden. ???? I guess someone's just a really big Rozen Maiden fan.
BUT UH, YEAH. Very strange.
Aww it's a shame you didn't like the Chimera Ant arc so much. I can understand the problems. I guess the arc as a whole isn't so great but I just love where it went to. It got seriously pretty dark and there was this reversal of character roles. I felt like the Chimera Ant arc was the clearest arc that had Togashi saying 'these protags you have been rooting for all this time were actually not such nice people and the villains aren't so bad'. That's what I liked about it the most. But yeah, the pacing wasn't the best and I hated Palm so much.
Wow! This is super weird! This is like my last summer 'cause I was watching all the same stuff last summer!
Chuninbyo I couldn't get into just 'cause Kyoto Animations art style annoys me. It was cute for K-On but I am so tired of it...even if the story is decent and the animation is decent I just can't bring myself to watch any more.
Free was and awful awful awful experience and I have many friends who are in love with this series and I have NO CLUE why. It has the flattest characters I've ever seen. And yeah, I think you are right. It's too worried about what the audience thinks and not about how to write an actual story. It's too cardboard for me, but it is hilarious to watch.
Also I didn't mind the Rozen Maiden anime. I am SOOO surprised by the hate on crunchyroll. They are usually pretty decent with reviews, that's crazy. I read some of their comments and I am confused because I didn't see any problems with the anime like they are talking about. It's kind of boring in a way and it's not all action-y like the first anime was, but the animation isn't terrible and I like how similar to Peach Pit's art style they tried to make it. It's WAAYYY better than the Sailor Moon they gave us (sheesh that anime is hideous...I can't even bring myself to watch it despite having been a hardcore sailor moon fan for years).
Maybe they miss their silly meme-ness of the previous anime. All dem desu's be not such a big deal. It's less quirky and more serious which is how I felt the manga was sometimes, especially at the end.
....Also I am beginning to think all the reviews are written by the same people since the style of writing seems to be the same to me...at least for the first page of reviews...super weird...O.o;
PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME ON THIS PARAGRAPH BECAUSE I WOULD LOVE TO READ IT
And mmm yes things are going to get more serious. Prepare yourself.
Also yeah, I can understand the Free! stuff feeling a bit forced. I feel like it got better in season 2 with flowing a bit more naturally, though i may just be making that up due to bad memory. ahaha :'D
And yeee! No.6 is one of my fav series and Nezushi one of my 5eva OTPs because of also having checked out the manga and novels since that way I got to see ALLLLL the dynamic interpretations. Word.
AND I... Am actually moving in Thursday because I decided to help out with freshman move in! It's gonna be hot. And things are going to be heavy. But it's gonna be fun. So I'm currently in packing hell trying to get stuff together. can i go destroy your side of your room before you get there like i'm p sure anastasia will help me do so :'D
i'm also going ALL OUT on decorations. Why didn't I do this last year.
ALYSSA.
I HAD TYPED A PARAGRAPH DETAILING JUST HOW MUCH I HATE THAT STUPID KOALA. But I deleted it because it felt pointless.
YOU KNOW WHAT THAT KOALA'S NAME IS???? IT'S KOALA.I HATE HIM SO MUCH.
Meruem and Komugi!!!! They were my favorite part of the arc, too. I almost cried... during that last episode.... hoo hoo.
AND KNUCKLE, BEAUTIFUL CHILD...
Yeah, for Chunibyo I'm getting pretty used to the style, haha. I do like the interactions between Rikka and Togashi. :,D Also, I think I just got to the part where things start getting serious, with Rikka and company visit her grandparents' place for summer. >:O I was gonna watch more, but I got distracted WHOOPS. But it's good to hear it's got some good themes! I'll have to finish it, soon. >:U
Ah, you know, that's true! It is fun to fantisize about how characters might feel for each other or how things might play out between characters, based on ambiguity that's been given. :U Like stuff in Tiger and Bunny and I GUESS STAR TREK (??? the only thing I can think of rn) is all subtext and never explicitly discussed, but it never really bothered me that the hints of romance never became integral to the plot. :^o
IDK, MAYBE, I just feel that Free!'s being a little too heavy handed about """subtext""" where instead of leaving things open for imagination, it's almost forcing the audience into shipping characters or whatever. It's like, what's the point of leaving these characters' feelings as subtext when you're going to be so blatant about it...?
BUT. I'M ALWAYS UNNECESSARILY HARSH ON FREE!, 'cause I was kind of bitter when it was released. ""orz
(Also, thanks for the link! I'll read it later tonight. >:V)
NO. 6 IS ON MY LIST OF THINGS TO WATCH THAT I KEEP FORGETTING ABOUT!!! I think I saw the first episode, but it's been forever. I really do wanna watch it, though, it looks good. ;0;/
Also, I didn't know there was a manga and novels! :O I'll have to check those out, too.
Yeah as much as I talked up the Chimera arc, it was probably one of my least favorite arcs and Mereum and Komugi were the only real saving grace...... (AND PRECIOUS KNUCKLE....)
Chunibyo is super cute! The animation is pretty moe a la KyoAni, but once you get used to it, it's fine. I'm not sure how far you are, but the series actually deals with some pretty nice themes about identity and such, which I found pretty refreshing because I actually learned some things and didn't just sit through entertainment garbage aaay. The second season isn't quite as good as the first, but it was still cute.
ALSO, as for the homoerotic subtext, I read some essay a while back about how subtext is much more appealing than straight-up BL because it leaves more room to the imagination, or something like that ??? I WISH I COULD FIND IT AGAIN... It might have been this, but?????
(As for casual BL anime where the main storyline is focused on other stuff..... I FORGET, HAVE YOU SEEN NO.6 --- it's not overly fabulous due to not addressing a lot of things that should have been addressed plot-wise but. eh. it's an adaptation. the manga and novels are nicer in those regards- BUT IZ STILL PURDY GOOD)
also brah when are you moving back in

HUNTER X HUNTER(as well as Tiger and Bunny ofc) HAS BEEN ON MY LIST OF STUFF TO CHECK OUT, although I've heard a lot of people weren't a fan of the Chimera Ant arc for the most part, to be honest...BUT ASIDE FROM THAT I'VE HEARD QUITE A BIT AND I'M HOPING TO FINALLY CHECK IT OUT ONE OF THESE DAYS.
Sorry to hear you're not particularly into Free!, but it's okay;to be honest, it's really not for everyone and I know some of the shipteasing can be pretty frustrating(TO BE HONEST, I THINK ALL THE BLATANT SHIPTEASING MIGHT BE WHY A LOT OF THE FANDOM ON TUMBLR SEEMS TO CARE MOSTLY ABOUT THEIR SHIPS AND SHIPPY MOMENTS, it's a pretty terrifying fandom to be in QAQ). I haven't watched a lot of sports anime, but I remember watching Haikyuu(aka volleyball anime) thinking there'd be some shipteasing in it as well, but I was surprised to find THERE WASN'T REALLY ANY OF THAT GOING ON. Of course, you can tell certain characters are very close and sometimes you end up shipping some of them, BUT I NEVER SAW ANY BLATANT SHIPTEASING LIKE FREE! DID, it felt kinda weird to be honest...
Also, this is an anime I have yet to watch, but I've heard Samurai Flamenco has some BL in it without it being the main thing(I think). I MIGHT BE SLIGHTLY WRONG ABOUT THIS SO PARDON ME, but as far as I know it's an anime with superheroes in it kinda like Tiger&Bunny, and I remember hearing the two male main characters eventually get together and are engaged or something like that. I haven't watched the anime yet and I've only heard some parts about it from some other people who have, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE A FAIRLY SOUND RECOMMENDATION TO ME.... There's also Boueibu, which has some BL-ish elements in it and there are male characters who are heavily implied to be attracted to one another(it has indeed been confirmed by the writers some characters are crushing on eachother, although there is no word on whether any characters will actually be in relationships with eachother), BUT IT MIGHT NOT BE FOR EVERYONE EITHER SINCE THERE IS SOME SHIP TEASING HERE AND THERE, although I believe that one's meant to be satire of the magical girl genre and the more fanservice-y parts of the anime industry in general, arguably to the point where the show makes fun of itself, SO DO AS YOU WISH AND THINK WHAT YOU WANT or...something.
AND I SHOULD PROBABLY STOP HERE BECAUSE THIS COMMENT IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE INCREDIBLY LONG, but yeah :'D I'M GOING BACK TO SCHOOL SOON, TOO, BUDDY, HANG IN THERE ;H;
