Being the straight man requires an interesting touch. The most important part of getting it right is a willingness not just to deliberately miss the point, but to miss it so hard that you approach the point of comedy from the reverse side, all while keeping your face perfectly deadpan.
I find deadpan is easier to maintain if you don't try and keep your expression statically neutral (as in, the same expression). If you let yourself twitch your eyebrows or tilt your head as if struggling with a concept, or let your eyes dart around as if uncertain of yourself, the distraction of making false expressions makes it easier to not laugh.
Also adding gaps in your speech helps. Occasional bits where you trail off mid-clause, or phrase-stutters, like so, "I wouldn't -- I wouldn't think that that ... uhm ... works ...," provide a nice variation to the straight man theme, substituting naivete for overly-serious.
Marvin is like the other me right now.

That's a lot just for one room. Guess it depends on the city. I know over here anywhere that is commutable for London skyrockets in price, £1000+ for a room in a house share in many cases. That sort of rental cost is crazy!
I'm relieved that you at least have a safe place to stay! I wish you all the best with saving up.
Livin' with my mum right now. It was her idea. I would try to get a decent savings and a more steady job.
Some apartments are going for $1100 for a one bedroom 600 ft^2 place. It's crazy what is being charged even in the ghetto, which was more or less where I was before.
That sucks that you were kicked out of your apartment :( I hope that you have found/will find somewhere better. That happened to me a few years back. I seem to move house more than your average hermit crab!
Sometimes the life of a hermit tempts me too... But it is nice to hear from you. I hope things improve for you. Enjoy your game when you can.

@Allamorph:
I've tried the straight man route before and it just doesn't work all that well.
Which is fine since I do like a good banana.

@Neko Nana Mode:
I am what is known in comedic circles as a switch. I can be the straight man or the banana man, I just need a good partner.
Not to be confused with the BDSM definition of "switch". I have no practical experience in that field whatsoever.

I ... don't think you understand what the word "meet" means.
