I've missed you, Nana! It has been a while. If something happened that you'd want to talk to me about...then feel free. I hope you're ok. ^^; Remember, you can TRUST me. Just like I trust you.
This was an interesting topic...something must've happened to you dealing with trusting someone, right? Or not.
I'm the same way...I tend to trust people on gut feelings...I don't really know how to do it any other way. Sometimes I'm wrong though. I'm not as good as you. ^^; It's probably because I trust too easily...
I think that trusting someone is believing in them to be honest with you and to be someone that you can tell everything that you want to them without fear. Faith...having faith in someone is to believe in them completely to fulfill their role as the person in your life, whether it's a friend, family member, teacher, etc.
Sorry I didn't email you. Things have been crappy, but nothing out of the ordinary...I guess. Thanks again for your comment on life.
Faith, to many religious people is the same as trust when it comes to dealing with God. But since I don't believe in religion, that is not a template I can use.
That's not true. (^_^) A lot of people misread the concept of Faith as being inherently religious, which is a simple fallacy to make. The reason for this misconception stems from the fact Faith is most often referred to in conjunction with the Judeo-Christian scene, and spoken of little elsewhere.
Let me look at one of the definitions of Faith. (Unfortunately, I do not have a M-W dictionary; I must rely on the definition given at Dictionary.com, which is reliable enough in that it provides multiple sources to view other than its own.
2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.
Ironically, every major science experiment ever done began with Faith. But I believe that that definition sums up Faith perfectly. Either you know something for certain, or you have faith that you are correct.
And you're right; Faith and Trust are not the same. Although "faith in a person's abilities" usually has a good connotation, it can also mean that you believe you know that they will act in a way that you do not agree with or would not benefit you. Trust, then, is your ability to rely on another person to whom you may be vulnerable around, or to whom you may make yourself vulnerable.
And that, I think, is your main hang-up; not trust, but dis-trust. Unfortunately, I also think that it is half your nature's fault; while it is true that others must earn your trust through their actions, you inevitably will have to choose to give it to them. Part of that will involve making yourself vulnerable, and having faith that they will not disappoint you.
Also, if you have been or at some point become hurt by someone you tried to trust, do not let that discourage you from trusting others. You can never totally judge a person by another's actions. Even I, with the massive insight I've been blessed with, can only understand half of anyone's personality without them showing me themselves.
