There are a lot of people in the world with a lot of different beliefs, so I don't claim 100% that any given one is entirely right or wrong. BUt I do feel like a lot of people tell themselves to believe something because they feel they are supposed to.

Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
Strange, my mom was talking to me this morning about the boy who died, and she was talking about how a lot of people seem to say that "they've gone to be with the Lord" or "It's all part of the Plan." And she was saying she just can't believe that. I said that I thought sometimes people believe what they need to believe to get by, but I don't think she understood what I meant. She said, "Maybe it'd be easier if I could just see the world in black-and-white, like the religious extremists." But somehow I don't think that's better. I just try to be open to the possibility of everyone's beliefs. I believe in Something, that's as far as I know, and I call that something God because that's the word I've been given and I don't have another one. But I also believe in respecting everyone's beliefs or lack thereof. If I saw the world in black and white, I wouldn't be able to be so respectful. I'd probably act more like my father, who claims he can get along with everyone but then acts as though anyone who doesn't see exactly the same way as him is crazy or wrong.

That is true, it happens all the time. It just seems shocking that it could happen to him of all people. He'd just graduated, he had a girlfriend and plans for the future. It was just really sad. Plus I live in a fairly small community where most people know each other, and I'd gone to school with him since Kindergarten.

@Hifsa:
It was pretty bad, a lot of people (including me) are in shock right now. Thank you for keeping them in your thoughts.
