The thing about my mother is that even if I win the argument, I still lose. She'll just act passive-aggressive about it intermittently over the next couple of months. So it's only really over if I let her win.

When my parents are home, so do I. I've been genuinely trying to improve my relationship with my mother, but it's been easier while I was away. It seems that we cannot get along while coexisting in close quarters, but I try to at least remain civil even when angry. Over Thanksgiving break we ended up getting into a tense situation in the supermarket, and I backed down because I decided it wasn't worth it to cause a fight over some bread.

Thanks. I'll have more time to figure things out over winter break. If it doesn't work out, I'll either try to study abroad or find a summer job. At the very least, I won't spend this summer like I did the last one--sitting at home doing nothing, kinda depressed and hiding from my mother. Although in fairness I did get a lot of painting/staining projects done for her, and I aced my summer class. But apart from that I basically just hid out in my room.

My aunt is trying to help me with that by setting me up for an internship, but my mom is causing trouble because she doesn't want me to do it. The problem, to me, isn't that she doesn't like it. She doesn't have to. All she should be doing is supporting my decisions right now. (Constructive decisions, anyway, like adding this potential work experience to my life.) She wants to control everything and my dad hates conflict, so I can't ask either of them for advice at a time when I could really use some. My aunt's been really helpful though, so even if this internship doesn't work out, I still got some advice from her and she helped me put together a resume.

I think a definite rule for living with someone should be that once an argument is settled, it's in the past.

It's going to be tough. It's not a very marketable major.
