I know, everyone should get a little leeway when they're going through a rough time, but the key phrase here is "a little". Otherwise it crosses the line from patience to enabling, and then it's a slippery slope.
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
My dad is so desperate to avoid conflict that he gets exasperated with my brother and I for not running around in circles to appease her. I want to tell him it's because that's not how a relationship is supposed to work. It isn't healthy.

I would think so too, except she didn't yell something like "Be careful" or "Don't hurt yourself" (frequent terms in her vocabulary as she is a very anxious person). Her exact words were "Dammit, David, open it the right way!" And I agree that typed/written communication is more comfortable than speaking. For me it's because I can look it over and if something I said came out wrong, I can fix it before I send it. Then I don't have to worry about rambling too much or inadvertently offending someone. Your mother should try to be more understanding for you, but I think the older generation doesn't understand that electronic/typed communication is more commonly occurring in younger people. My dad, for example, always wants to show me Youtube videos in person and is upset when I don't have the time to watch them. I tell him to send me the links via Facebook message and I can watch later, but he doesn't want to do that. I think that the older generation sees electronic messaging as a colder, distant, and more impersonal method of communication, whereas to me it's just another way of contacting someone. Today's just been a whole drama show of anger with her, though, directed at pretty much everyone in the house. I'd be more patient about putting up with it, except that A) she's a grown woman who thinks this behavior is acceptable and B) that means that I'll never get an apology or a change in behavior from her. If we want peace in this house we have to cater to what she wants whenever she's in a mood or could get into a mood, but she never has to try and deal with her own problems, it's our job to somehow know how to give her what she wants all of the time despite the fact that we all have our own lives. I know she has a lot of problems like stress and anxiety and anger, and I know that it's important to be accommodating of the needs of other people in my life, but I feel like if that's the case, she needs to try and meet us halfway. Sometimes I feel like I'm older and she's the child, because she makes her own problems out to be everyone else's fault.

People can be set off over the tiniest of things. I don't know why your mom acts like that, but last time I was home my mom started screaming at my brother over a box of cookies. Seriously. The cookies came in really hard-to-open packaging, and we couldn't get it open, so he started jokingly stabbing at the box with scissors, and she started freaking out and yelling that he had to 'open it the right way'. And I usually like good stories regardless of the happiness content...how else would I be reading the ASOIAF series?

Only managed to see the opening sequence and a couple scenes following that (my brother commandeered the TV for video games and my mother required me to do chores) but I loved the way the opening looked and I will definitely continue to watch it when I can get the TV to myself. I've started your drawing but not finished it. Lately I can't seem to motivate myself to finish things, that's a habit I need to get out of. I think that being home is affecting me badly, my dad and brother are stressed, my mom seems increasingly depressed, and it's kinda depressing for me to look back on the way I viewed the world when I was a child and realize that my family would inevitably become like this, that even then the way I perceived the world was a pretty lie that my parents were barely holding together. Sorry to unload on you like this, my mother's been saying stuff to really worry me. I know it's not my job to hold these people together, but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna try.

Home now. If we've still got power tomorrow, I'll try my brother's PC. I'm also searching Youtube for some vocaloid inspiration, because I'm finally starting your birthday drawing...months after your actual birthday. I'll call it a not-birthday present, lol. Or a Solstice gift.

It still hasn't worked, but when I get home I'm going to try with my brother's PC rather than my mac. I finally get to go home today since the weather cleared up.

That happened to me a lot when I was first learning. Luckily I learned when I was young, so I never caused anyone injury

I shall keep that in mind! Link still not working, it'll only save as jpg.original rather than just jpg. Is that something you know how to fix?
