This is actually the second season that I'm watching at the moment! The first season is lovely, but it sometimes slips in quality, and puts in fillers in lieu of the manga storyline. But even so, it's still awesome.
Heh... Doumeki and Watanuki are a somewhat more optimistic version. If Seishirou was a quietly sarcastic yet decent dude and Subaru was a total spaz, that is.
The first episode starts with the eye plot, so you jump right into the eye-poking. XD The animation looks really fantastic, though! As for Watanuki's hysterics, they're still there, of course, but Fukuyama Jun plays it subtle during the dramatic moments, which made me happy. I'd say it's definitely worth a go.
God, I might have to watch it. Damn Clamp and their obsession with poking people's eyes out. I have a hard enough time dealing with Watanuki's hysterics in the manga, though... not sure if I can cope with him voiced and in full color... (OTOH, there's Yuuko and Doumeki~)

I watched the first episode at the con' . . . but then since the second stage set finished, they cut it off before the very end - we were pissed.
But Brina Palencia directed the dub and she's awesome. So yes, xxxHolic's absolutely on the list.

Eye-poking? When I hear eye-poking and CLAMP in the same sentence I always think of Subaru and Seishiro in X.
