Hahhhh... the best part is, when we were coming back from Okayama, my family stopped at their friends' house and basically ignored me for five hours. I slipped out for some quiet and sat in a little park at the end of their (short) street, with my cell phone on... and when I got back fifteen minutes later, my host father proceeded to flip his shit because I didn't say anything to him.
Host families with kids who go out all the time complain about how they're never at home.... and as you've experienced, the opposite happens as well, heh.
