MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THIS POST. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN FMA, DO NOT READ.
...NOOO. NOOO. AAAAAARRRGHHHHHHHHHHGGGHGHG NOT HUGHES. NOT HUGHES.
...Okay, calm down, Kyra, start from the beginning...
So. The first two minutes. We heard Mustang talking to Hughes about how he almost killed himself. With a gun. With a gun, barrel in mouth and everything. Oh my goodness, I don't think an opinion of a character has changed so much so quickly before. I've read books where a character gets to the point of barrel in mouth before, and that sent chills down my spine, but this... I had to pace for about five minutes before I could calm down enough to start watching then again.
Then, of course, there's the whole finding out that the fuhrer's secretary isn't who she seems... that's not so much of a complete plot twist, but it's still pretty cool.
And, of course, Hughes... DANGIT, HUGHES.... When he got shot I was like "Pff, he's not really going to die... it's just a fakeout... right.... RIGHT!?!? Of course, when the people were shown carrying the coffin... of course he's dead. Of course. And of course they do everything they could to make absolutely sure you're going to cry, the worst being her daughter crying out, saying he can't finish all his work if he's still buried when he wakes up... gosh, I'm starting to tear up thinking about that again... The best way I can summarize the feeling is to respond to Mustang's "It's supposed to rain today" with a quote from earlier (by Al): "No fair, rain, I'm the one who feels like crying..." OH MY GOODNESS. Do you know how many characters can say that I truly cried at their death? Not many. At all. But Hughes... AHHHHH
Okay. Rant over.
