So, I'm finally semi-caught up with Space Dandy, and I loved episode 5. Uh, I'm not sure if you could call them "spoilers", but I'm using spoiler-text anyway for this (for those who want to be as surprised as possible).
Hello Space Dandy meets Wreck-It Ralph. Space Dandy captures a young, undiscovered alien intending to turn her in for the money. However, as they travel together, he soon changes his mind, giving up the money so that she can go live with her only relative - her grandfather. This episode had its laughs just like any other Space Dandy episode, but it also goes to show that it can be more than just a comedy show, it can have heart, too. This episode did raise the bar on my expectations, because now I know that if they just do comedy, they're being lazy. Heck, it could even have a sweet (yet funny) climax and become a more developed show than I expected this to be. If it does well, then maybe this release-in-America-first thing might not be a hit-and-miss after all.
Also, since I'm here, I might as well ask my audience - would you like to see a review of Deltora Quest (the anime)? I've already seen it all, I just don't know whether reviewing it would give me any turnout. So, what do y'all think?
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THIS POST. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN FMA, DO NOT READ.
...NOOO. NOOO. AAAAAARRRGHHHHHHHHHHGGGHGHG NOT HUGHES. NOT HUGHES.
...Okay, calm down, Kyra, start from the beginning...
So. The first two minutes. We heard Mustang talking to Hughes about how he almost killed himself. With a gun. With a gun, barrel in mouth and everything. Oh my goodness, I don't think an opinion of a character has changed so much so quickly before. I've read books where a character gets to the point of barrel in mouth before, and that sent chills down my spine, but this... I had to pace for about five minutes before I could calm down enough to start watching then again.
Then, of course, there's the whole finding out that the fuhrer's secretary isn't who she seems... that's not so much of a complete plot twist, but it's still pretty cool.
And, of course, Hughes... DANGIT, HUGHES.... When he got shot I was like "Pff, he's not really going to die... it's just a fakeout... right.... RIGHT!?!? Of course, when the people were shown carrying the coffin... of course he's dead. Of course. And of course they do everything they could to make absolutely sure you're going to cry, the worst being her daughter crying out, saying he can't finish all his work if he's still buried when he wakes up... gosh, I'm starting to tear up thinking about that again... The best way I can summarize the feeling is to respond to Mustang's "It's supposed to rain today" with a quote from earlier (by Al): "No fair, rain, I'm the one who feels like crying..." OH MY GOODNESS. Do you know how many characters can say that I truly cried at their death? Not many. At all. But Hughes... AHHHHH
Okay. Rant over.
