Bossman Cupcake Winner Announced
Our Bossman Cupcake contest has reached conclusion and we received many amazing entries. Who would have thought that a character based on a pastry would receive so many radically different interpretations?
In my mind there was a huge tie for second place, but the entry that I thought captured the essence of the Bossman Cupcake the best was this one:

Ahh, fun times. Congratulations, guys and girls! And now for this week...
So once again, we have the good graces of a screencap from Kimmeh's stash. From it, we have the grand new-to-TV series Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann and features... Yoko in the skirt, and... mostly forgettable mooks everywhere else. If you know their names, more power to ya; if you don't need their names for a good caption, even more power to ya. But I digress - here's the picture:

Happy Birthday myOtaku/Registration!
On July 31st, 2003 (five years ago) we simultaneously launched our first blogging system, myOtaku, as well as a registration system. Before that, for things like fan art, you had manually email them to us (yikes!). Happy birthday to myOtaku and happy anniversary to all members who were first in line to register on that day. Party!

A small bug where if you try to upload a PNG avatar with Internet Explorer has been fixed. Thanks to Kaydirt for reporting this error.
Announcing theOtaku Gifts
One of the things that distinguishes theOtaku.com from other fandom and art sites is its emphasis on community and making friends. That's why we are happy to announce a really fun, silly feature that we hope will gain a lot of steam: GIFTS.
What is a gift? A gift is a small icon that you can attach a message to and fire off to a fellow member. Once sent, that member can put the gift on their portfolio or just save it in their backroom forever.
In order to preserve the value of gifts, we've put a limit on the number you can send per 30 days. That limit is three for normal members and five for premium members.
Additionally, the variety of gifts you have at your disposal changes based on your status. If you're an Otakuite you have fewer choices of gifts you can send than if you're a Senior Otaku. Premium members will be able to send all our gift icons.
Here are a few ways you can use gifts:
- If you host an art contest, you can give the winners each a gift
- If it's someone's birthday, you can send them a birthday gift
- If someone writes a great comment on one of your works, you can send them a gift
- If someone is feeling down you can send them a gift to cheer them up
