Off To Sakura-Con

Hey Otakuites, SomeGuy here.

It's my last day in town before heading south to Sakura-Con in Seattle, Washington. Once again, this is the final reminder that the meet-up will be at 3:00pm on Saturday, April 11th at the lounge area just inside the Pike Street entrance to the convention center. If you're coming to the con', we'll be there.

And hopefully Batou will be there too. If he ever checks his e-mail and gets back to me before it's too late...

And if you're not going to the con'... well, I'm bringing a camcorder. Anyone have any requests or suggestions for things to do while we're there, feel free to comment now. It may be our last chance to hear 'em!

As always, any further information about this meet-up can be found at the Conventionist World.

Lookin' forward to seeing you guys out there!

Challenges Upgrades

I'm pleased to announce two upgrades for our swanky challenges feature:

(1) Medals are now displayed on your portfolio. Since no challenges have finished yet, no one has earned any medals. The first challenges are expiring at the end of today so they will blossom shortly.

(2) You can now disqualify entries that were submitted for your challenge. I received complaints that some people are submitting works that don't follow all the rules. This should rectify that.

Enjoy!

theOtaku.com Anime Podcast V - Ep. 26

Ichigo, if you read this before Batou does, tell him he's got e-mail. And yes, it's very good to see how to avoid Rickrolls. Other than that, short week, not so much to report on. Which of course is a reminder for everyone to comment lots on the podcast!

Music - Metamorphose by Yoko Takahashi from Kono Minikukumo Utsukushii Sekai

The following podcast may contain some coarse language that may offend some listeners. Discretion is advised.

And finally, you can find Ichigo's travel log over at the Anime Pulse website (under the "features" tab). He's gettin' some crazy adventures over there. Go read. Right after the podcast.

Caption Battle: I'm Gonn' Butter Yo Bread...

"It's that time again..."
"To listen to Morgan Freeman talk?"
"To watch Gordon Freeman not talk?"
"No... it's time for this week's caption battle!"

But first, last week's winners (as picked by this week's guest judge Red Tigress):

In third place, totally not at all being sarastic: Miss Anonymous!

You'd think that with Jack being Japanese and all, he could easily handle any sea creature, not to mention cook it up for chow time later. [/politically correct]

In second place, risking all sense of good taste: TimeChaser!

Come on Jack, it's just a jellyfish. It took a stingray to take down Steve Irwin.

And in the coveted first place, saying (again) what everyone was thinking... Aceburner!

Jack's face at realizing how many tentacle jokes were in store for him in this week's caption battle.

I really need to work on these quicker, especially considering next week...

So this week, we get a screencap courtesy of Hisaishi and featuring the series Hare+Guu. Hare's on the left, Guu is on the right. Easy, huh?

You know the drill: type up the funniest, wittiest, most original caption you can think of for the screencap above in the comments below. Also, if any of you would like some tips on writing a great caption, you can find those here.

And like always, theOtaku is open to all submissions and suggestions for weekly feature content. You have a screencap you want used, you can PM me and we can do somethin' about it. And remember: Scotland is part of Britain, but Ireland is not.

Sakura-Con '09 Reminder

We're one week away from Sakura-Con in Seattle, Washington!

So far confirmed for the meet-up are myself, Anomaly, chibimaster, red:leaf, serenitytsu, thinkantii, and pretty much as many people as I can harness from the OSCgumi cosplay group.

Batou the podcaster has yet to be confirmed, but I'm sure he'll be there too.

That said, preliminary plans are finally falling into place with a possible meet-up on Saturday, April 11th at 3:00pm.

Once again, if anyone else is coming out to Sakura-Con 2009, be sure to swing by the Conventionist World and let it be known so we can watch for you!
