Oh right, the actual fifty things can be anything. :p I should go with fun stuff here instead of OB this time around. It won't be hard to find lots of nifty things for theO from the last year.
Just FYI, we were going to add more theO-specific awards, but we didn't want to have too many categories. Most of the awards are general enough to cover all sites within our network (i.e. Member of the Year could be from any site).
Also, the awards are kind of supplementary. The meat of the event is the Nifty Fifty itself - where you can nominate anything you view as nifty. So that can definitely include a great e-card maker if you so choose.
OB and theO are not only sister sites, they are like two halves of the one site. So the more we can integrate the two, the better!

I can see the effort being made to include theO, but it just still definitely is an OB thing. True, theO has been given one exclusive, however there are several more for OB.
And much of theO is still ignored. What about a a category for best e-card contributor for the year? Best fancomic series? Most creative challenge? Most funny screen caption?
*some time later*
I just read through the previous year's awards on OB. Apparently I missed the fact that there actually are fifty things said. O_o Seems a lot to me, but whatever.
But basically, I now see that those awards are just a minor part of it. In that case, I am now fine with it XD
I humbly apologize for my mistake.
Though I will still say that the fact that it is posted only on OB, and that theO wasn't informed of it until a third of the way through the nomination time is what is part of what still makes me see it as a primarily OB thing.
Whatever the case, I am now interested in seeing the results! Should be fun! :)

It still looks and feels pretty much OB-oriented, but if you say so...
It depends on the actual award really. Take the one for worlds. OB doesn't have worlds so that's geared more towards theO.
Upon pondering it, there is one thing I would like to note.
I can understand the idea of having it go across both sites; I mean, they are, just as you say, sister sites. However they are still rather distinct. There are many well-known members on OB that I don't really know, because I don't use OB pretty much at all. I'm sure it's the same the other way around.
This is why some are OB specific and some are theO specific, like the thread of the year and world of the year, each one is for their respective sites exclusively.
Basically, I can understand the sentiment for wanting to have one overall award set, but it seems to me that it just simply is not practical, considering the separation.
Perhaps I am merely an outlier in this though, and many people use both sites. This is, after all, just me speaking from my experience as an almost exclusively theO user.
Being staff for both sites, it's easier for me to see the two as being more connected. Obviously not everyone uses both, but for those who do, it seems reasonable to open it up so everyone can be a part of it if they so choose. ;)

It used to be just a thing for OB, but this year we decided to open it up to both. It makes sense when you consider that theOtaku and OB are sister sites.
We were still discussing how to make the event include both theOtaku and OB since they're sister sites. If you go and read the opening post again, you'll see that it's been updated to explain that it includes both. ;)

I've always thought that the Nifty Fifty was an OB thing. So it includes theOtaku after all, huh?

I saw that a while ago, and it looked to me like it pretty plainly stated that it was only for OB. :/
