Tales of Okuri Tale 3 of 7 Eliminating the Competition

As Inuko stirred, she smelled Ginseng tea boiling. Turning her head, she saw Maiko and Aya making a full kettle’s worth. Great, it was her favorite brand, and she could really use some right now. Throwing the sheets off herself, she rolled out of bed and onto her feet. She crawled over to where her friends were watching the kettle boil, stretched her arms and yawned.

“Well, well. You’re finally up.” Maiko commented cheerfully. She poured a cup for Inuko, which was gratefully received, and returned to her conversation. “So anyways, this guy wouldn’t go away, so I ask why he’s still bugging me and he says that he’s been looking for someone with eyes like mine….”

Inuko stopped listening to the conversation and tried to sort out her own thoughts. Her mind kept visiting facts she had learned from the imperial library, about half demons and what it meant to be one. She was amused, and much delighted, by the fact that no matter what she did, she would never lose any muscle mass. She also knew, however, that she was capable of getting fat if she did not run around. As a half demon, she could go 72 hours without sleep, although it would cause her much strain. She knew that these same rules applied to the Okami brothers, and she bet they knew these rules better than she did.

“I must say I like the design of this train car.” Aya commented, playing with the curtains by the window. “But the color scheme definitely leaves something to be desired.” She focused on something far away, and then turned excitedly. “LOOK! We’re almost there! I can see it now!

Okuri grinned as he saw the train coming closer. They were finally here. It only took, what, 15 days since he had Daichi send the letter. And now his moment of glory was almost at hand. He turned to Kiba and Akamaru. “Alright, according to insider information, the best time for us to attack would be at 7:00 am tomorrow. The sun just set, so it’s 3:00 pm now.” He eyed Kiba contemplatively. “You want to see Inuko? Fine. But have your armor on before 6:30.”
