“Remember what I taught you!” shouted Okuri, breaking off the chase to find Masanori.
Akamaru chased the Geisha into a dead end. They stared back at him. He just stood there, snarling menacingly. That was his job: keep the Geisha occupied while Okuri and Kiba did their business.
Chasing Inuko, Kiba struggled to remember the words Okuri had said to him.
“Chasing the girl is by far the second most important part of the process. Not only does it compare your physical abilities, it lets you discover how she thinks. Some girls like being chased, but not if they think you’re after their lives. There is a way to tell the difference: If she is running away from you, she will try to make it impossible for you to follow her. If she is letting herself be chased, she will make it difficult for you to follow.”
Well, this chase was some what difficult, but it did not approach impossible.
This couldn’t be possible! Inuko had lead him through various obstacle courses-she had run up walls and even upside down at times-and nothing seemed to slow him down. Hell, he was gaining on her! Panicked, she rushed out through the gates, only to regret it a moment later. Fool! This was his turf!
“Remember, if she goes on your turf, she’s definitely interested in you.”
Score! This was definitely going in Kiba’s favor.
An hour passed. Then another. Aside from his tongue sticking out from his mouth, the dark haired brother showed no signs of tiring. Yet another hour passed. Inuko was almost completely exhausted, but somehow she managed to keep running. Suddenly, her pursuer wasn’t there when she looked back. She dropped, relieved, and closed her eyes. She had outrun him! On his own turf! She giggled and imagined what Maiko would be saying if she was here. You go girl!
