Kita Mikichi's Top 40 OP/ED Countdown

8. UN-GO ED
Fantasy - LAMA
I fell in love with the song at first listen, and the video, even though it’s mainly montage, is a creative presentation of the characters in the series.

7. Mekaku City Actors ED
Days - Lia
The song is pleasant, and I like the storytelling, too – but I realize it stole its core idea from the Angel Beats ending, “Brave Song”. *laughs*

6. Yona of the Dawn OP
Akatsuki no Yona - Ryo Kunihiko
This opening perfectly sets the stage for the show it represents – in tone, tension and beauty. Though the images are mainly a montage, it catches interest and works up just enough anticipation for story developments.

5. Monster OP
Grain - Kuniaki Haishima
The song is very unique and definitely sets the tone of tension for the show (which, by the way, I would NOT recommend watching). The images also offer a good taste of the story without giving too much away.

4. Naruto OP1
Wind - Akeboshi
This is one of the very few Naruto themes I liked. I particularly enjoy the way the images told a story. And it's full of feeling.

3. .hack//SIGN OP
Obsession - See-Saw
This is another song that caught my attention right away and sucked me into the show. (I never get tired of the music in this series.) And, minus the borderline suggestive imagery near the end of the theme, the presentation is pretty cool. -- Sorry, guys, the video's blocked!

2. Last Exile OP
Cloud Age Symphony - Shuntaro Okino
The only reason this didn’t get the #1 spot is because it doesn’t tell as much of a story as the #1 entry. But the song and visuals are both amazing. When I first watched Exile, I would play the opening over and over again -- I don't say that about very many anime OPs or EDs.

1. Terror in Resonance OP
Trigger - Yuuki Ozaki
The funny thing is that the style of this is very similar to the Last Exile opening, down to the grainy textures used and the birds and feathers imagery. But Terror’s opening takes #1 for storytelling – you get a bit more of a feel for the characters and a stronger emotional response here.

That's my top 40 anime openings and endings! It was a real challenge sorting this list, and I tried to be as unbiased as possible, but I do admit some of these were ranked more for music than actual opening. XD Thanks for joining me for my countdown!
